Topic: Fender Steel King Amp

Is anyone using the Fender Steel King amp. I saw a thread from back in 2004 when they came out, but nothing since then. I have been using a Session 400 for the last eleven years. Recently I purchased a Nashville 112 because of weight issues with the 400 (having gotten older since 1995, the old back ain't what it used to be). But the 112 just doesn't cut it on stage, not enough power. I played with a guitar player the other night who said he'd seen a few steel players with Steel Kings and they all loved it. Anybody know what up? |

I am still lovin' my Fender Steel King(FSK)! I've had a chance now to play through it for a few months side by side with the Peavey Nashville 112 which is a fine amp in itself. The FSK still sounds like a tube amp with gobs of power and thundering bass. The reverb is also a step up from most steel amps although I use the RV-5 instead as it is very close to a tube reverb unit. I posted some sound samples recorded live by miking the FSK with a Shure SM-57 on my web site below. Greg

Ditto on the FSK. Best tone I've had in 35 years of playing steel. Big, fat, rich, tube-like tone. My bandmates have noticed the difference. For many years I used digital reverb, but with FSK I'm back to using the reverb in the amp. I'm also using 3 BOSS stomp boxes(delay, chorus, overdrive), depending on the gig. How many players use the effects loop in the FSK? I seem get a better sound running the effects in line. |

Hey Joel! I'm lovin' my Steel King. Go back and use the "Search" function on the Forum. You'll find lots of good comments and many, many satisfied users. These great amps don't come up for sale very often on the Forum. When they do, they get snatched up pretty quickly. This is the only amp I've ever used that sounds as good as my old Evans FET-500. ------------------

I agree with comments on the Reverb, sounded great. I even stopped using many effects AND the Black Box.Larry Behm |

Just got mine a few days ago. Recording a couple of demos at the house. Clean and quiet. Can't wait to get it out of the house and play a gig with it. |

Thanks for trying a Peavey Nashville 112 amplifier. Although the Nashville 112 is rated at 80 watts, pro players have told me that the little 112 still provides enough volume for live performances. You could use two for stereo too!Try it out when you get a chance. Well, I got a Steel King about a week ago and I've been loving it from the 1st note. Used it on a couple of gigs, a recording session and a couple of rehersals, and every time I've gotten comments on how good the steel sounds. |

Had mine about 17 months now and have gigged it hard many times. Still loving every minute if it! Got together with a couple of other local steelers a few weeks back and all three of them commented on the tone and one just would not believe there were no tubes untill he looked in the back of the amp! One was an Evens owner and went out the next week and ordered a Steelking! I tried a Peavey 112 and they ARE A NICE AMP! But for my ears, I prefer the Steelking tone..."To each his own"
