If you've been following my posts this week you know that I've also been unsuccessful watching the youtube videos using IE6 or IE7.
I got to thinking that steel guitars folks weren't the only people that use Youtube so did a Google search for Youtube IE Problem and found this website- http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=32&threadid=1950701&enterthread=y
It's called AnandTech and I used the solution posted by John and installed Sun Flash, uninstalled Adobe Flash, rebooted and reinstalled Adobe Flash. Oh my, don't that Mertle Travis and Thom Bresh Youtube vidio sound nice.
My thanks to Wiz and all for all the helpful suggestions that kept me going on this problem. I would have given up without your help.

Wiz,

You finally convinced me in installing Firefox. Guess what, when I tried Youtube again:

"Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Get the latest flash player."

This is the exact same error message as I have been seeing in the last 3 weeks with IE.

I tried many ways sofar to solve it. It is driving me crazy.

YYYEEESSSS !!!

Visited Google Videos in Firefox.
1. Clicked on a video to play
2. Got a button to install a plug in
3. Plug in required appeared to be Macromedia's Flash Player.
4. Click to install.
5. Got a user agreement to accept (NEVER seen this in IE) - clicked OK
6. Google video played - OK sofar but now the ultimate test: Youtube video. Guess what: (see top)?

Thanks to Wiz and all the others for helping me out with this one. I know IE is still not working but I can at least SEE and HEAR something with Firefox now!

I don't know this for certain, but I am not one to believe in multiple coincidences. There is something seriously wrong with the Flash Player plugin. Coincidently, it was recently acquired by Adobe Systems. During the last 6 months there have been several updates to the Flash Player to plug critical vulnerabilites. I believe that one or more of the "fixes" that are meant to protect your computer against exploits via Flash objects are the cause of these world-wide reports about display problems on YouTube and similar websites.

If I actually gain knowledge that this is a fact, and learn about a workaround or fix, I'll Post it on the forum. I receive several security newsletters and group messages every day, so chances are good that somebody will reveal this information.

Having done two workarounds to stop getting html coding, it seems that it is not a permanent solution.

Yesterday clicking on youtube links that were posted elsewhere I got the coding pages again. So I copied the "watch=xxxxxxxxxx" bit (control C) for the video I wanted to see, then went directly to the youtube page. Clicked on any video there, then in the url line at the top of the page, pasted the watch bit over that shown.(Control V)

Guess what - doing it that way it played - but it is a long winded way to get to see the videos that you really want to see.

I think there must be a problem in the coding of the youtube pages. Next time it happens I will run it through one of the html coding check websites.
