Johnny and I have just learned that George Edwards, steel player for Kitty Wells, has had a massive stroke and heart attack. He is in the ICU at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. His left side and speech are affected, and we understand he had significant damage to his heart also from the heart attack.

Please keep George and his family in your prayers. If we hear more, we'll pass the news along.

I saw George here in Nova Scotia at a Kitty Wells show a few years ago. Talked to him afterwards.
He let me play his Emmons and we talked for quite a bit. A finer and more gracious person you could not meet.
I was impressed with him both as a fine person and a fine player.
My prayers are with him.

I'm sad to hear about George and wish him a speedy recovery. I met George 20 years ago and everytime I saw him after that no matter how long in between he always knew who I was. He is a remarkable player and person.

We will definitely keep George in our thoughts and prayers. We have shared many good times with him through the years, starting way back in the 60's at Sho-Bud.
Hang in there George, we don't want to lose you. Your friends, Leslie and Ron Elliott

I am shocked and saddened by this. George befriended me years ago when I was on the road. Being based in Texas, we would go through Nashville sometimes and hole up in a hotel. I used to hate that. George would come and get me (I should say "save me") and we'd just hang out. He came to San Antone to play with Kitty and we got together then. We'd talk off and on but kinda fell out of touch. A wonderful guy! They call him "Big George" for reasons other than just his physique. George has such a fine touch on steel. Beautiful, tasteful, and true. I'm praying for you old pal.Hang in there.

George was the first steel guitar player I ever worked with.I was a junior in high school in 1963 when we first met.His wife and I went to the same high school.George took me under his wing and gave me a lot of good advise. We had lunch about a year ago and were supposed to get together for a family dinner but we never got to do that.Me and Marcy's prayers are with him.

George is a dear friend of mine. In the early 90's he taught me to play steel. Our collaboration brought the beginnings of what has become Miracle Audio. His golden ears helped me establish the Super Mod series. I love him like a brother and am shocked to my core to hear this terrible terrible news. My prayers are with you George! Don't give up!
You've got a few more choruses in you! I'm pulling for you as are all of your friends and you have MANY friends.

A kinder and more sensitive man never walked the face of the earth. Let's pray hard for George and hope we can keep him around for a long time.

I've only met George a couple of times when we opened a show for Kitty and Johnny. I could tell immediately what a great guy he is.

When I spoke with him outside one of the shows about six months ago, he was telling me how he was planning to become a fishing guide once Kitty retired at the end of 2000. With our prayers maybe this can still come true for him.
