The intro on the rock clip is great! I thought it was part of the rhythm track at first. Billy is awesome! |

Ann, Billy Phelps is the greates unknow? player at the various shows. A lot of people at the shows say they spend more time listening to Billy than they do in the main hall. Visiting your group at the Carter Booth is always a highlight of the conventions. www.billchaviers.com |

Ann: Any chance someone could tell us what amp and effects Billy was using on the Rock clip ?? I saved both of those clips for future reference just to show my friends what can be done on Pedal Steel Guitar and especially a Carter. Now if I could only get my D-12 to sound like that I'd blow this so called Southern Rock Band I play in to you now where and back....... Thanks for posting the clips Ann. I always enjoy Billy's playing, but those two clips are especially cool. Great pickin' Billy. I'm no expert on Billy's setup, but he had been using a Line 6 POD, probably feeding the Nashville 1000 in the video's background. I have not had the success with the POD that he has, but it certainly can give you more voicings in the blues / rock genre than your typical "steel" amp will provide. |

Wow! I am totally impressed by both Billy's fine and versatile playing and the sound of that Carter Starter. If that demonstration doesn't lead a bunch of younger folks to the steel guitar than I think we might's well give up. ------------------ |

Billy Phelps inspired me the few times I heard and saw him play at the Carter booth. Not only is he a great pedal steel player but he sings and jokes while playing. Talk about multi talented...Whew! |

Lenny, I second that! I am really looking forward to hearing him on the main stage at ISGC St. Louis (Sunday morning according to the posted schedule). Great rock style playing on that video, Billy! |

Thanks, Ann, I never heard of Billy before but now I'm impressed - he's a great player. [This message was edited by Andy Volk on 11 August 2001 at 04:27 PM.] |
