Hi Forumites. As July 4th Independence Day is fast approaching, I recorded this C6 arrangement of several well known patriotic tunes in recognition of our wonderful country and the brave people who put themselves on the line preserving our liberties and freedom. Please click on the website below and then click where it says “Patriotic Medley”.

Jeff, thanks for sharing that mp3 with us. It sounds great and is truly a heartfelt tribute to our Great Country and the brave Men and Women who have served in our Armed Services!
Its hard for me to tell who influenced you more, Curly Chalker or Julian Tharpe, but I hear a little of both of them in your playing. Great stuff, keep it coming!

Jeff,
I am having trouble downloading your patriotic song.
I can hardly wait to hear it as I am a proud American and support all of our armed forces and anyone that does something, musically or otherwise, to support our troops.
A great fourth of July to all and don't forget what the fourth is all about.

What a Spectacular display of artistry.

A taste of the melody ... then an inspiring array of improvised ideas .

I've seen that the big celebrations have been choreographing their fireworks to music in recent years ... this would make an outstandinge finale for any show.

Good to hear this. Glad there is talent like you around to keep the "C6" beautiful chords alive and well. Best to you and yours over these holidays. Hope to see you in St. Louis. By the way, John Heinrich, session player in the Nashville area, will be there with us at the EXCEL booth. Stop by and hear his amazing talents on the C6 (and E9) necks.
Thanks again for your love of our great country.

I'm really not sophisticated enough to under-stand and fully appreciate JAZZ.......

However, I do recognize and enjoy hearing great talent.

It's a truly fine performance!

Obviously exceptionally fine talent!

Thanks Jeff! We could sure use a lot more people honoring the U.S. of A. with music!

Nice stuff, Jeff. Thanks for posting it. And thanks Ricky for the great website. Danny Boy (or sort of) is great too. I'm looking forward to playing through the tab. Jeff's solo playing is in a free-rhythmic style that many pianists and guitarists play in (e.g., Joe Pass); but one that I've never heard a steel player play in before. Jeff is cutting his own path.

Goodness! Makes me want to learn C6 someday...uh...then again maybe not! : ) Great work, Jeff - don't know how you NY guys do it... Must be the caffeinated air up there!

Definitely pays tribute to the American ideals of innovating and stretching the limits!

That's something I'd like to record as well. But it's hard to organize. When I do these solo pieces, I just make an appointment to be in a small local studio for a few hours, most of which is spent warming up, doing some rearranging and practicing parts. If I bring a bass, drums, and maybe piano, or sax, I have to have everything perfectly worked out in advance, charts and all, and of course pay them. And since I make nothing on these clips, and am already paying for the studio time, using some players would really put me in the hole. Another option is to make a CD, which several steel guys have said they would like me to do. Then of course I would include some band pieces, besides the solo pieces. Something to think about. Thanks for asking. And thanks everyone again for the comments and the many e-mails I have received. .. Jeff

Beautiful C6 stuff, Jeff. Have a happy 4th of July everyone! I've spent some serious time criticizing our leaders sometimes, but it's only because I want this country to be the best it can be. We are blessed with the greatest country there ever was.

No doubt that would be interesting as well, but it's great that Jeff is taking this solo thing so far. Maybe he's getting a list together so he can play some high-dollar jobs on his own.

I'm guessing you're still playing the Zum, Jeff? Interesting jazz tone with it.

You have got to start playing at the conventions!
What axe did you record this on?...(Refreshing to see your copedant is a bit "outside the box" too). http://www.mightyfinemusic.com/Jeff/copedant.htm

Thanks everyone for the comments. I recorded it on a Zum D10/11 (11-string C6). It was direct in, with I think a little compression. If there's any reverb, it's very minimal. It basically is the natural sound of the instrument. No plans to do conventions for now. Thanks for asking, and ONE DAY TO GO. HAPPY 4TH!!!!!

No one does it like Jeff....There's nothing for me to add other than echo what has already been said.

I had the opportunity to see Jeff play in a trio with Sheri Wagner a few weeks ago. Guitar/vocals, pedal steel, and bass in a small intimate setting. It's a rarity to see pedal steel in a jazz/swing trio and if you think that the MP3 sound sample was tasteful and masterful, Jeff live, lived up to all of the accolades posted above. A wonderful experience and a great inspiration...thanks Jeff.
