Here is a Window's Media clip of some songs, that part of the group I play for did. It was on a local low power TV station, and was completely unrehearsed. To make matters worse, our keyboard player AND the lead player were unable to be there, so we were only a three piece combo.

As you'll see, the big time steel players aren't going to worry about me taking their jobs, but I thought some of you might find it interesting to hear a local wannabe steel guitarist.

Just remember...it was done live, so the mistakes are all there, and I'll admit to overplaying, but the leader of the group said since there were no other leads, to put in something... so I did. lol

On the positive side...they did have the steel out front in the mix!!!

Any comments, pro or con are welcome.

Thank you so much. You make some of the sweetest and cleanest steel guitar music I've heard in a long, long time.

Wow, I'm floored by all the positive feedback! I can't thank you guys enough for your encouragement. I was tempted originally to post the link to my playing in the humor section!

We don't have anything for sale at the moment, but we're talking about doing a CD in the hopefully not too distant future.

The only thing we're currently doing is the TV program, which is Sunday evenings at 5:30 central time. It's on the Christian station that I work at, and you can watch everything we broadcast online at http://www.w39cd.com For the live TV station programming, you'll need the realone player. The free version works fine.

Thanks again, because coming from fellow steel guitarists, it really means A LOT!!!

God bless,
Lem

Thanks again guys. The Emmons is one of the original Legrande models, with Lawrence 710's and the short keyhead on it, and the amp I'm using is a Peavey Nashville 112. The only effects used is the built in reverb on the Nashville 112.

Lem nice work. It is classic country steel and you seem to be carrying the torch quite well.

You were much more exposed than normal as the only soloist on several songs. You stood up to that challenge well.
Great tone and generally fine excution of your ideas.
Expecially considering that you had to come up with so many more than usual in the same time frame, since two players were missing.

Keep it up and post again.

Dear Lem,

You are a bold man to post your playing for all to hear and see, and should be proud of your performance. Really nice backup work in the country style as others have said. Your intonation and tone are really great, and you don't have volume pedal-itis or vibrato-itis either, which is excellent. One minor thing I noticed (and this may be due to some sort of time warpage in Internet land) is what a teacher of mine called a timing problem, i.e. getting the right hand to nail the notes you want in "time". I practice scales, etc. with a metronome and it makes all the difference in the world for me.

I only mention this because in all other respects, your playing was great, to be sure far above wannabe status. I hope I have not offended you or anyone else by my observation. Thanks a lot for sharing your playing with us.

Ken, David and Gerald thanks for your kind posts.

Gerald, I am not offended at all. That's one of the reasons I posted the link here, was to get feedback from fellow steel guitarists. Believe me, I certainly realize that I stand in need of improvement. I have been trying to play steel for several years now, but have REALLY gotten out of practice in the past few years.

I have not played steady with a band for a long time now...mostly just playing the steel at home without any backup tracks, etc... and I realize that has probably hurt my timing some. I appreciate you pointing that fact out.

In fact, if any of you other guys care to share your observations on what you think are areas that really need improvement, feel free to say so. I'm all for improving my steel playing, and I realize that an impartial observer can be a good thing.

Thanks again everyone.

Good stuff, Lem! Wow, that's not just a "clip", but almost enough for a TV show, and you're doing just fine (lotta good licks)!

By the way...you're right. When you're the only lead instrument, there's no such thing as "overplaying"!

Lem,
That is some mighty awesome pickin my friend. I've really never got to hear you before now but I must say I'm very impressed.
You folks down in Mississippi are mighty fortunate to have such a fine talent as Lem in your midst.
Lem, Great Job on the Steel. Keep up the good work!
The best part of it all is that you give the Glory of your musical abilities to our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. And the next best thing was you were playing it on a Emmons Guitar. . . .My favorite brand!

Donny, Bob and Nick, thank you so much for your kind words. I certainly appreciate it. Hopefully, as I get back into practice, it'll sound better.

If any of you guys get a chance, tune us in "live" Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm Central time at http://www.w39cd.com Nothing quite like "live" TV to really showcase one's mistakes! lol After you listen to more of my train wrecks, just think how much better you'll feel about your own playing!!

Thanks again to everyone who has posted.

Lem if you can get some back up tracks or Band in a Box on a computer, it will do wonders for your timing.

Also BiaB will allow you to create your own chord patterns with rythm section so you can work out new ways to get from A to B and on to C all with good rhythm.
As well as focus on trouble spots.

Keep up the good work.

Lem had you posted this in the humor section it would have been in the wrong spot. We would have had to ask b0b to put it in here where it belongs. Great picking. Can't add anything to this that hasn't already been said. No wanna be picking here. Purely professional. Thanks for sharing. Very best of luck to ya.

Billy, Robert and Reggie. Thanks guys for your nice comments. I sure appreciate them.

Hopefully I'll be able to upload a couple or so clips before too long of some songs I actually practiced on a bit...hopefully they won't have as many goofs in 'em!

David, I'll look into the Band in a box idea.
Thanks for the heads up on it.
