We (the Sacred Steel Instrument Fund)are looking for pedal or non pedal steels, as well as amps or effects to donate to young Sacred Steel musicians who are needy, and also actively playing. All these donations can be claimed on your income tax, because it is administered through the non profit Arhoolie Foundation.

Many of us on this forum lament the lack of young steel player, but there are hundreds of talented and motivated steel players in the Sacred Steel community. Many of them can't afford decent instruments, some can't afford any instrument. We are in the process of gathering applications from musicians for instruments to be given away at the Sacred Steel Convention in Tallehassee FL in late May. Forum members have donated a Sierra S10, a custom made 'Palenscar special' S12 (thanks Jim!) and a Fender lap. it ould be great to have more instruments to give out to this amazing group of young players. All instruments, from student guitars to pro models are much appreciated. Send me an email if you have something to contribute.

Thanks!

Dan great idea, I only wish I had some thing I don't use to send.
If there is a "buy a student a steel fund" I can chip in there.
Good luck with a worthy project.

Hi Dan,

The Sacred Steel instrument Fund is a great thing. I'm glad you posted here.

You'll be mighty lonely if you go to the Sacred steel Convention in Tallahassee. It's in White Springs--about a 1-1/2 hours east of tally--in concunction with the Florida Folk Festival. White Springs in just a few miles north of the intersection of I-75 and I-10.

Please see www.sacredsteelconvention.org

The site includes a link to directions.

See you there!!

What Bob said...

From here in Seattle all those northern Florida towns look the same ....

Hey Bob, what are the best cities to fly into for this? (Tallahassee seems to be the closest city, but it is very expensive to fly to).

Thanks to all that have responded, looks like we have an antique D10/11 MSA, and two very nice lap steels.

Thanks, everybody!

Hey Dan!!!

Could you please contact Steinar and me ASAP regarding the guitars we're donating? You and I just need to meet somewhere around town, but if Steinar's donation is going to get here in time from Norway ... !

Thanks --
