For those who might be interested, here is the url to an mp3 of a song:
http://www.susanalcorn.com/Song.html

If you are the first person in the Steel Guitar Forum to post (1 )the name of this song and (2) the name of the song that is inside this song, I'll send you a free personalized, unreleased, unmastered CDR (of questionable audio quality) of some nueva cancion songs I have recorded.

Good luck,
Susan

Sounds like Jobim. But not a slow version of Corcovado.

Also makes me think of John Abercrombie in the ECM days in Oslo.
Also Astor Piazolla comes to mind.

Sounds like "Gracias a la Vida" but I don't think so...

Very nice, whatever it is...

I'm sorry I can't tender a guess, but I had to say... that's achingly beautiful. Thank you.

"Steel Guitar Rag" and "I Love You Because"?

Seriously, I don't recognize the tunes, but I'd recognize your touch on the steel guitar anywhere. Beautiful playing!

It's definitely Violetta Parra's "Gracias a la vida", and I hear a hint of Burt Bacharach's "This guy's in love" somewhere in the middle. (or some other song with the same notes in it But I could be wrong.

Very nice, but I'm musically challenged. I think I heard some Doors "Light My Fire" inside. Otherwise stumped.

Maybe some Gershwin "Summertime" blended in also.

Much more difficult than Jim Cohen's puzzles !

Thank you to all of you who took the time to write. I'm sorry to say that the song is not "Steel Guitar Rag", "The Stillness Within" or "I Love You Because", though it is a love song of sorts. Jim Cohen and Per Berner were correct -- the song is "Gracias a la Vida" by Violeta Parra. The second song on the inside is another song by the same writer.

The song on the inside is written by Violeta Parra. So . . . if you can name that, you will be the winner and the (semi) proud owner of the CDR by yours truly.

Well, folks, I guess this contest needs to be wrapped up. No one guessed the second song which was "Run Run Se Fue P'al Norte" by Violeta Parra. This tune, in the "Rin" style of Chilean folkloric music (which tends to get a little frantic and speed up in places),is almost like the opposite of "Gracias a la Vida" (thanks to life). "Run Run Se Fue" is about her feelings towards the adventures of her husband who took off and left her. The mood is unrelentingly and increasingly sad, whereas "Gracias a la Vida" shows such an eloquent love of life going from love of the individual to love of everyone. Both of these songs were written and recorded towards the end of her life on, I believe, her last album.

However, since both Per Berner and Jim Cohen identified "Gracias a la Vida", I'll send them both copies of the disc. Per please email me your address and I'll get it into the mail for you.

Thank you all for listening.
