Lenny Breau:
"Swingin' on a Seven-String"
AL1013-2

You also might want to check out the re-release of Ted Greene's record. (I helped Ted remaster it.)

Dan. May I ask you a question about the Ted Greene recording. First of all I bought that when it came out and was just knocked out with his playing.

Were you able to use the original master for this project?
Was the leslie/chorus effect printed to tape or added later at mixing? I have often wished to hear that recording with less of the leslie effect. Were you able to have any control of the balance between uneffected and effected guitar?
Thanks.

Art of Life Records is proud to announce our latest CD release.

Lenny Breau-"Swingin' on a Seven-String" AL1013-2

Featuring Buddy Emmons, Jim Ferguson and Kenny Malone.

"Swingin' on a Seven-String" was recorded on August 12th & 25th in 1982 and originally released in 1984 as "When Lightn' Strikes" on LP. In addition to being the last studio album that Lenny Breau recorded before his untimely death in 1984, "Swingin' on a Seven-String" also remains as the only studio recordings of his seven-string acoustic guitar playing. In addition to the five tracks featuring Lenny and acoustic bassist Jim Ferguson performing duets, Lenny is joined by pedal steel guitar legend Buddy Emmons and drummer Kenny Malone on the remaining quartet tracks. Eight of the eleven tracks feature Lenny on seven-string acoustic guitar, while the other three tracks feature Lenny on six-string electric guitar. All tracks have been digitally remastered from the original analog master tapes using 24-bit digital technology. The CD also features one previously unreleased bonus track, "Blue Eyes Crying In the Rain". The 12-page booklet includes extensive liner notes by author Ron Forbes-Roberts as well as commentary from Buddy Emmons and Jim Ferguson.

To place your order online please visit the Art of Life Records web site at:

Sincerely,

Art of Life Records

I’m pleased to add that “Minors Aloud” will be reissued on the Art of Life label in two to three months. Ron Forbes-Roberts and I are writing the liner notes which will include how Lenny and I prepared for the album. Ron is also writing a book on Lenny, so it should be a must for all Lenny Breau fans.

I just ordered the Lenny Breau CD. I have Minors Aloud on LP and am glad they are going to put it on CD. I still have a turntable just to play some of these albums on. Going to have to go to Radio Shack to get another one one of these days.

Bill, no we were not able to control the "Leslie speaker" effect on the guitar. This was recorded as part of the guitar- not seperately on its own track. However, a few listeners have told me that with the new CD, the Leslie effect is not as noticable and bothersome. The original vinyl records may have accented certain frequencies which made the Leslie sound tiresome. I think you will be pleasently surprised at the overall sound.
