Does anyone know if Lee Ann Womack is currently touring with a steel player? and if so who? She's comeing to a "theater near" and I dont want to miss out. Ill probably see her regardless of wether she has a steel player on the road or not........sure is a purtty lil thing and man,...can she sing! |

I saw her a few years ago in Yuma, AZ and after half dozen or so songs I thought that I might have heard a steel, (Faintly!)so I walked closer to the stage ,,,and damned if she didn't have one!! It was about an hour into the show and she finally played a few country songs. (The guy on steel was good.) I left wishing that, in spite of her being purdy, I wish I'd saved my money!! |

Her new CD is great. If "There's More Where That Came From" ain't country, then I don't know what is. "Waiting For The Sun To Shine" is a catchy, well built tune with great harmony. Now, I'm riding down the road listening to the CD (and driving)and I hear "Someone I Used To Know", the Porter/Dolly tune. I look at the CD cover (at the red light)and I don't see it listed. I thought that maybe I switched to the radio accidently. I put the CD back on and sure enough, it played again after a long pause after the last (12) tune. Pretty sneaky and a great version too, but why not acknowledge it on the cover? Did I miss something? ------------------ |

I downloaded Le Ann's entire CD from iTunes. "Someone I Used To Know" has exactly 20 seconds of silence before the music begins. I don't know why. For effect? Kinda like the Beatles did on Abbey Road for the very last track, "Her Majesty". It seems they wanted you to think the album had ended when suddenly this simple little ditty pops up out of nowhere. ------------------ |

The latest I just heard (from someone in her organization) is that Lee Ann has decided not to take a steel player on her upcoming tour after all. Of course Rusty Danmyer did the gig for years but left to go with Leann Rimes, and they'd used a few different guys on the few gigs she's done this year; word was she was going to use Gary Carter when the tour started in April. Given all the steel on the new record, and her return to more traditional country stuff it doesn't make any sense not to have a steel player on the tour, I hope this is wrong (or that she changes her mind again!) And Gary sure is good, she's crazy if she doesn't hire him! You might remember him from many years with Randy Travis where he got to play a lot, or Faith Hill where he played less and less every year as she got more and more "pop"... Just saw her tonight. No steel, and more baffling than that was that there was no soundman out in the house, apparently it was all from the side, by the moniter guy. Good players, lousy sound...ok for a bar room, but for $44 in a nice old 1,300 seat theater, I expected more. After all, we're talking about Lee Ann Womack..isn't she the big time? Last song ended, house lights came up...boom done. No encore, and no band introductions....very odd...incredible singer though...which makes it just that more strange and disapointing. |

I saw her on some late night show last month. All she had was keyboard, bass, drums, acoustic guitar. No steel, no fiddles, no tele's. |

She had a fiddle player who was also one of two background vocalists, and doubled on acoustic guitar..I would think that if a name act is cutting back band members, that they would get a utility guy that plays steel, fiddle and guitar...or at least split the duties between the fiddle player and the (dedicated) acoustic player. I'm really curious about the way they did the sound though (no house engineer)...is this the trend with county artists? This was at a theater that regularly has the likes of Emmylou Harris, Shawn Colvin, Alison Krauss, Buddy Miller etc, and I can't imagine any of those types of artists doing something like this. Lee Ann Womack is one of the best singers I've ever heard live, but the production was amateurish...very wierd combination. |

I was also at last night's show at the Keswick. I didn't think the sound was bad but definitely missed the steel as it is such a signature on her recordings. Show was enjoyable but kind of low key. I was disappointed the band was not introduced individually by name and thought the abrupt end to the show was a little strange. Total performance time at 1 hour 15 minutes could have been a tad longer too considering the ticket prices, but I guess that is the norm these days. Overall I enjoyed the show and think her choice of material (both recorded and live) is great. |

My description of amateurish sounds harsh, but I am speaking in relative terms compared to some of the other shows I've mentioned. It struck me as an odd presentation, given the quality of the material, and how startlingly good her voice is. |

" I recently purchased CDs by Mark Chesnutt and Lee Ann, both of whom used to be produced by Mark Wright, who, IMO, has absolutely no "country soul." They switched labels and producers. Mark Chesnutt's CD is, for my money, an absolute knockout! I can't get enough of it. After listening to it, I put on Lee Ann's. Sure enough, the first cut is great, but I was very disappointed with the rest of it. Based on that CD, I am not surprised that she isn't carrying a steel player. |

Lee Ann will be playing here(Glens Falls) the 22nd. Bryn White is oppening for her.Hope its a good show..Too bad she seems to be touring without a steeler. But I think I will enjoy her vioce either way, and she's not too hard on the eyes either. ------------------ |

I couldn't help myself..this is a "hot button" for me and, continues on and on. Why? with all the steelers looking for work..and these "stars" not using a steel player, on the road, especially!, just boggles my mind. Wasn't it just last month,, I saw on the Forum, Roy Clark dropping his steel player? Can money be that tight? come on now. I just can't believe it. I guess I am, just too darn old. |
