Lloyd Green recorded a lot of sides with Don Williams on steel and dobro. Can't say for sure, but I believe it was He on the tune in question.
Don Williams and Lloyd Green. Hard to get more mellow than that!

I read somewhere, years ago, that Don Williams couldn't stand pedal steel guitar, but could tolerate it only when Lloyd Green was the player.
Myth??

Lloyd Green played Steel and Dobro on all of Don's famous recordings starting in 1972 with Don's first chart hit "The Shelter Of Your Eyes". Between 1974 and 1980, Don had none less than 11 #1 hits!

For me, Don's soft mellow voice and Lloyd's great playing matched up for a perfect combination. The next update on the website www.lloydgreentribute.com (in a few days) will include some beautiful soundclips of Don Williams and Lloyd Green.

Kind Regards, Walter

Lloyd played a lot of great DW music. I think that Sonny Garrish is on a few later ones and Russ Pahl also has a few good ones in there too.

Another tid bit of info on the sessions of Don Williams> is the drummer never used Sticks(just his hands)> except for Tulsa Time.
To me; that helps the smoothness in the delivery of Don Williams Recordings; and Lloyd Green can deliver the same texture of what ever/who ever he records with> Perfectly.

Paul Franklin played on an album or two after Lloyd stopped doing sessions. I think Paul was on "One Good Well", but I could stand corrected. I agree that the Don Williams stuff Lloyd did was some of his prettiest ever - I never get tired of it.

Albeit,Lloyd is one of my favorite steelers,& a good friend,Don Williams was NEVER one of my favorite performers. To me,his performances were very "ho-hum",if you will. In comparison,he made Perry Como sound like Elvis. (flame suit donned!)

Sorry you feel that way Smiley. Personally,
I could watch Don sing in his sleep, ho hum
or whatever. What a voice! A combination of he and Lloyd would be hard to top. Nuf said.

Yeah, Smiley, if I want to listen to some rockin' and swingin' uptempo country, I wouldn't select a DW record!

But his voice and Lloyd's steel/dobro playing added up to something that's missing so often - a distinctive personal style! I love it!

Kind Regards, Walter
