Email me and I'll wire you the song file.

If you're looking for a critic, you come to the right place.

You picked a song that I would have never thought of. That shows that you want something other than the usual mainstream. Good!

You say you play all the parts? Well, you can and I can't so that's even better!

You kept the song in it's traditional Buddy Holly beat and style. I'm curious as to how it would sound in a more subtle beat.

The fact that you laid down all the parts to the song speaks volumes to me as I can hardly play one instrument, let alone 3,4, or more. I say that is great!

Did you sing the song? If you did, try not to sound like Buddy Holly. Just sound like yourself. Of course, I can't sing so I need not comment any further on that issue.

It's OK. I don't think it will reach #1 on Billboard by October but if I had done it I certainly would not have been ashamed of it.

One question, did your hands sweat while you were doing this project?

Wow. I love this. I really love it.

Now, who is Buddy Holly? I'll bet his version isn't as good as yours!

Of course, I'm kidding.

Buddy Holly is the guy who invented the cool glasses.

But, I like the guy from Lubbock's voice better!

Bob, in your email options, there is a setting for maximum file size. Charlies song files are pretty big so you may want to check that.
I set my max size at 1oookb and change it if I want to download a big file by email.

Well, Buddy Holly is from Lubbock too.

Come to think of it, so is Lloyd Maines (and the whole Maines clan).

And those guys in the Flatlanders.

And Charlie McDonald.

Nice job on the song, Chaz.

Guys and Dolls,
You are too kind. I just wanted to be at the top of the charts for my 15 minutes.

I don't have cool glasses like Buddy Holly, but I saw a desk at school here that had his name carved in it.
I can only sing like myself.
My hands didn't sweat. I never take music that seriously, but I'm getting to where I like steel so much that I even practice now. Maybe someday I can afford pedals.

You all oughta encourage George Redmon to put some of his stuff on the air here. He just sent me The Preacher, and it's hot!

We need more music here, so people can have something palpable to spew at rather than each other.

Did someone mention steel? Pretty far back in the mix for me! Maybe better posting in no peddlers if its a lap steel!
Davie

PS Nice vocals!

What the heck are they feeding people in Lubbock? My best friend moved there, but she still can't sing. How interesting that so many musicians came from there. Thanks for the info!

Charlie,

Really very nice. I probably should be familiar with the original, but if I am, it's only vaguely. I'm fairly certain you've introduced some personalized touches in the chord progressions that sound very cool. In particular, when the chords ascend with that nice open sound (like at the end of the solo before the last verse). I think the balance of instruments is quite good. Only the vocal I'd say is a little uneven sounding in volume. Sometimes it's right there and then it falls into the background too much I think. The vocal itself, you should be proud of, as with all the playing.

Really nice.

Davie and others,
I have a mix of the backtracks (and vocal) without the steel parts. I'd love to hear this tune with a real steel. If anybody's interested in playing with it, I'll email them to you.
