![]() Monday night I went into the ET Record Shop and bought a copy of Buddy’s Live 77 CD. The young man at the register looks at the CD and says, “Buddy Emmons, he’s pretty good, huh? I’m just learning about steel guitar. I’m a classically trained piano player” Tuesday afternoon, I popped into Tootsie’s for a couple of minutes after visiting customers at the Bellsouth Bat building. I ask one of the kids working there, “Isn’t that Fred Newell playing steel?” He replies, “I don’t know but he plays on the Opry with that old guy.” “Porter Wagoner”, I ask? “Yea, that’s him I think”, he replies. Conclusion…..THIS AIN’T YOUR FATHER'S LOWER BROADWAY!!!! Tommy Hannum sounded great with John England and The Western Swingers and Mr. Hughey was awesome as usual with the Time Jumpers. As a bonus, I got to visit a bit with Mike Sweeney and my hero, Doug Jernigan at The Station Inn. ------------------ |

![]() Bill, I guess this puts a whole new spin on describing the "NEW GENERATION".. A few weeks back when we were in town my 2 bandmates sat in over at Tootsies with Fred.. We always go to see Jimmie Snyder at Tootsies when we are in town.. Hangin' out with Mike and Doug while listening to John..now thats worth the price of admission for sure.. Next thing ya know we are gonna hear.. "Elvis , Who's Elvis ? " "Some old guy who sold a lot of 45's" "45's ? what the heck are they ?" Here's TJ Cook on vocals and young Tele' ace Matt Cook on Guitar sittin' in with Fred. Fred commented to Matt that if and when he moved to town to not get to comfortable, he would not be home much...! and by the way..Fred is the Ultimate PRO....
