Well, one of these days I want to get over to Denmark. My parents have very close friends that live in Farum ( I don't know how to spell it). Let me know what the best time of year would be to visit.

Dave,
Farum is the correct spelling. It's just north of Copenhagen (our capitol) and it's quite close to where I live, which is just south of the city.

Well Summer is always the best time over here, but on the other hand, we rarely ever have real bad weather. We CAN have snowstorms during the December-March period, but more often than not it's fair weather during that period too.

Let me know if I can assist you in any way !

HI Henning, sounds like your having a blast mate ---- I still remember you and me being the only "foreigners" at Jeff Newmans Steel school in 1982 !! We had a fair bit of fun then too of course. Is there anyone you didn't get lessons from while you were there ?? ha !

...wow! Cramming a schedule like that must have taken some pretty advanced organising. Seems like almost too much of a good thing, Henning! After a vacation like that, I'd need to have at least a month off work...

Henning, would you care to comment on the teaching styles of Mike Sweeney, Doug Jernigan and Stu Basore?
I don't think I've ever read a post yet of someone who took lessons from three different steel teachers consecutively like you did!
I'd love to hear what you got out of each one and how each was different.

Did you enjoy the Tropicoola's? I played on one cut on their CD. Their sax player and co-founder lives here in Denver and is a good friend.

Sounds like a great trip

21. October 2005,
Hello again,
Thanks to you guys who answered my first report on the Steel Guitar Forum. It was called “My First 4 Weeks In Nashville”:
.
To Geir:
Hello Geir, Between 1980 and 1986 I attended 2 steel guitar meetings in Kristiansand
(instructor Janne Lindgren) and 2 in Langesund (instructors Jeff Newman, Dewitt Scott and
Herby Wallace).
.
To Paddy Long:
Hi Paddy, yes, I remember you from the Jeffran College in July 1982. The weather was so
hot, that all electricity broke down to under half power including the air conditioners, so we
had to sleep 12 steel players in the bunkhouse in extreme heat that night. And the Buddy
Emmons concert scheduled for Friday night had to be postponed to next day, because the
amplifiers did not work.
.

To Tony Palmer:
Hello Tony, The teaching styles of Nashville players Mike Sweeney, Doug Jernigan, Stu
Basore, Russ Hicks and later in St. Louis DeWitt Scott and Don Curtis were all different,
but they all had something to give. I just kept on asking them, what I wanted them to show
me on the steel guitar, like intros, fill-ins, endings, melodies, back up behind a singer etc. I
recorded everything on 20 Sony Minidiscs. All of these players also have printed tablature
materials published plus CDs and cassette tapes.
My advice to future students would be: just ask the steel teachers, what you want to learn,
and do not be afraid to ask the teacher to do more of one thing (like in example back-up) and
less of another thing (like in example music theory).
.
To John Macy:
Hi John, Yes I enjoyed the Tropicoola's? It was certainly not country music, but a mixture of
moderen jazz and latin. I came there to listen to piano player Mike Rojas, and enjoyed his
moderen jazz improvisations in samba rhythm.
.
Kind regards to all,
Henning

Hi Henning !
As I've been watching your description of this tour, I've just become more and more eager to MAYBE some day do something like that ! It would be a fantastic way to get a lot of steel-guitar knowledge and -memories that one couldn't quite get any other way !

It's SO easy to read between the lines of your "daybook" and to just feel the enthusiasm that you got from going through all those experiences and I'm just SOO envious (in the best sence of that word of course !)

I know you probably did countless hours of recordings over there and that you'll have to go through all of those now, to fully grasp the experience you've had on this trip, but that's just as much fun as beeing there, isn't it ?

Henning, I'm glad on your behalf that you managed to make this trip, I hope to hear a lot more about it and I look forward to hearing your comments !

Best regards
Ole

Hi Henning, glad you had such a good time in the states, I'm hoping to get to the Texas show in March 06. I remember the heat in 82, but my wife and I were staying in the motel next door so we didn't have the problems with the AC.
I still remember Buddy's concert - it was awesome to sit 10 feet in front of him for 3 hours and absorb so much of his talent !
