Because of this great forum, I have been able to discover some great steel players and their CDs such as Roy Thomsons C6 method, Steiner Gregertsens Southern Moon Northern Lights, The Vanduras In the Dark, George Routs Harbour Lights and etccThe other day, I was able to discover a great lap steeler Sugino Nob from Japan on No Peddler section posted by Brad Bechtel. Sugino Nob has released two solo albums so far titled gSong of Grass Scent of Skyh and gFruits of Fortune.h I got them from him recently, and since then I have been amazed so much by the music. The music reminds me (although Mr. Sugino might disagree) David Lindley, Steve Kimock, Mac Gayden, and Greg Leisz (I do not know much about his music, but I do know he worked a lot with Peter Case.) If you like those legend players, you will love his music a lot, too. The sound is so pure and driving: however, his sensibility of music might differ from western music. In addition to play Gibson, Supro, acoustic Hawaiian lap steels, he plays Mongolian instrument called Morin khuur. I hope you check out his music samples. The second album gFruits of Fortuneh seems to have more electric Gibson and Supro sound rather than his first one. It is a masterpiece lap steel album, in my opinion. Thanks. I bought his CD - highly recommended! While some of the stuff reveals a heavy Lindley/Harper influence, he really shines on the stuff where he mix the "Americana" influence with a more "Eastern" flavor. He is a refreshing voice in the world of lap steel and truly deserve recognition outside his native Japan. Steinar |

 According to Sugino Nob website, the lapsteel above is not Supro/Valco product. The brand name is Woody. He happened to have a damaged Airline steel and had to transfer the pickup to the new body in order to keep the pickup alive. The result was very successful, he said. The body is made of very heavy wood, and it creates a heavy bass sound. |

Welcome, Nobu-san! I am really looking forward to reading your contribution to this forum. Unfortunately, I couldnft listen to your Woody sound samples right now since my computer doesnft work very well recently. I will continue trying anyway.
