Cindy played at a local bar here last night with Redd Volkaert. It was awesome. Her tone is unbelievable! She played a Fedner D8 through a Peavey LTD, and it had that classic sound that I wish I could figure out how to get out of my Remington Playboy / Peavey Studio 112 combo.

The music they played was good old fashioned country, swing and shuffles. None of this new bubble-gum pop stuff they call country.

The thing that stuck out the most, was that she was smiling the whole show, definitely having a good time. If you get the chance to see these two together, jump on it.

I second that, I saw them last week in Austin at SXSW, what a show, I have seen Cindy before with AATW, but have never seen Red, He is amazing. They did a great version of 'Sleepwalk' and 'Only Daddy That'll Walk the Line'. What a show!!

They had a drummer and a bassist. Red did the vocal work, and did a pretty good job. He's very entertaining, and plays a mean guitar.

I wish Cindy, Redd, and perhaps some others would put together some kind of tour, and get to different parts of the country-especially Northern California!

These days it seems like Cindy plays mostly in Texas, and once in awhile around her old stompin' grounds, in upstate New York around Woodstock-and that's about it, from what I have seen.

Hey Craig-I see you live in Westfield. I moved as a kid in the 60's to California from Scotch Plains, our first house there was right on Westfield Road!

Just got back from seeing Cindy and Redd at the Continental Club in Austin; awesome of course. Though it's Redd that plays through the Peavey LTD, with as good a Tele tone as you'll ever hear; Cindy usually plays through a Fender "Steel King" these days. I believe she'll be doing more dates on the Van Morrison tour; I caught that a few weeks ago in Nashville and it was fantastic...

Oh, that's right-thanks for reminding me Pete.

I had forgotten that she was playing with Van.

Hey Mark, That's pretty cool. I grew up here in Westfiedl and have lived here the whole time, except for college at Texas Tech.

If you haven't been back, it's pretty much the same, more houses less open space and lots of Knock downs and re-builds.

Lots of yuppies with money which is good for the economy.

I just found a brand new DVD today of Redd Volkaert (and Cindy) live at the Continental Club... it's called "Live in Austin, Texas" from one of their Saturday afternoon gigs there I think. I bought it at Waterloo records about a mile from the club, I'm sure it's available online somehow.

I suppose this whole thread belongs in "no peddlers" but who cares... Cindy is so good, and Redd's fantastic too of course; great playing all around...

Hey Tom, I was at Casbeers, too. Fantastic show wasn't it? Can you believe the blend? Nothing but vocals in the small house PA, yet the music blend was perfect, to me.

Cindy was way better than anytime I'd ever seen her with the Wheel. Redd had her smiling and she had Redd smiling.

Can you believe they played that same afternoon in Austin, before coming up to SA?

The live show was better than the DVD, I think. I don't know if the DVD was a while back, and their chemistry is getting better with time, or maybe the camera was somewhat inhibiting. Anyway, this is the best live music I have heard in a long, long time.

Les

BTW: Redd had the Peavey LTD. Cindy had some kind of Fender, but I didn't get up there to look and see what model it was.

Anybody find this DVD anywhere? I've searched and come up with nothing. I'd love to have it.

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of working with Redd up here in Surrey. It was a jam session, and I'll tell you it was a real pleasure. Redd is a great guitar player, and he sings a pretty good tune too. At one time we had four guitar players, a bass player, Redd's brother Chris, who is my favorite drummer, he's great, and myself on steel. Redd sang a Merle song, and he gave each guitar player, and myself three rides each through the song. It lasted about fifteen minutes. This is one afternoon that will stay with me for a while.
John.
