Mike, Thanks much for the post. Emmylou is just about my favorite artist. Back in the early 70's she would swing through here always saying she was on her way up to Bakersfield and we would catch her performing at Cal State Long Beach in the women's gym. 5 bucks! Emmylou and the Hot Band. Great stuff. Thanks again.

Thanks for posting the links Mike. That was a "HOT BAND". As I was watching those I saw a link to Albert Lee playing "Country Boy". You should see them both, the second, later version made me giddy! Here it is:

I remember some years ago when I was playing a gig at "Upper Heyford US air base, a G.I. said to me that Brit's could never play country properly. I'd love to meet him now and show him this video of Albert. He's a Master and one of the most down to earth guys I've ever met.

I have never heard of Hank Devito before these clip's. Was he the main steeler with Emmylou ? Where is he now ?

Hank was the steel player in the Hot Band and on all of Emmylou's original recordings with the Hot Band. From the '70s up through the mid to late '80s or so. He also played steel on albums by many other artists including George Strait. Hank lives here outdise of Franklin, TN and I see him occasionally. Hank is still one of the greats in my book though he keeps a seemingly low profile as far as the pedal steel is concerned. He's much more active as a painter and songwriter these days having penned titles for the likes of Brooks & Dunn, Vince Gill, Patty Loveless, Juice Newton, Rosanne Cash, and many others. His artwork has been featured on album covers for Rodney Crowell and a few others.

Hank Devito was the original steel player for Emmylou's "Hot Band". Eventually he was replaced by Steve Fishell (another monster IMHO). Recently Devito was involved in the "Notorious Cherry Bombs" project with Rodney Crowell, Vince Gill and others, and he has been active in the industry all along. Terrific player and terrific writer.

This is the music that changed my life way back when. I had just started to play steel in a band and The Hot Band was our blueprint for how we wanted things to sound. Man, this stuff is 30 years old now and still sounds incredible! Great to see some Hank DeVito footage! What a band! And the singer ain't half bad either....Thanks so much for this!

Sorry for all the exclamation marks but I think they are justified in this case....(! LOL)

Mike, thanks for the clips. Always loved Emmy with the Hot Band. I'm trying to save them to my computer using YoutubeX.com and am experiencing trouble. I get a message saying: "On the fly video converting is currently in beta." but no download happens. Does anyone know of a fix for this? I've been able to download Youtube clips before without any difficulty. Thanks, steve t

Wow, Emmylous has been one of my favourites right from the very first (her Gliding Bird album). Hot stuff, great music.

Steve, if you wish to save the YOUTUBE videos, it is quite easy. After you've seen it online, go to your "temporary files" and look near the bottom for "get video". Right click on that, it will give you several options, select "Open In New Window", and you'll see "File Download", left click on that, and give it a name with the suffix FLV. File it in your "videos" of MY DOCUMENTS. If you don't have the flash player installed, it always there for free on YOUTUBE. Geo

George,
By "temporary" folder, did you mean "Temporary internet files"? I'm using WinXPSP2 and would love to be able to save these too.

Great video(s) for sure. I scrolled down to the ones featuring Emmylou and Mark Knopfler. He's one of my favorite guitarists, especially since his album with Chet Atkins. Wow, I couldn't believe how great Emmylou still looks. She's got a body to die for and she looks hot with that gray hair! But more important, the girl can still sing her butt off!....JH in Va.

Thanks for posting these great Emmylou Harris links. I started playing steel around that time. It brought back a lot of nice memories. Regards! Bob
