The Penultimate Steel Guitar Accessory $23.95 delivered This is a piece of equipment that no steel guitarist should be without. Made from highly polished aluminum and select other parts, it will last a lifetime. The adjustable ring will hold most any cylinder you choose. And the coated Gibson clip will not mar your legs. This made for love not money. See below:
Here is a rendering of how it might look on a good night.
With an old Texas favorite!
Here it is with a very small crowd after a long drive.
Here it is holding a stomp tuner for those who cannot see the floor.
Now you may say “I can make that myself”. But at $20 bucks, unless you have all this junk lying around, forget about it. So splurge and send me the money! And most of all don’t take life too seriously. [This message was edited by Jon Jaffe on 03 January 2005 at 01:29 PM.] |

Whoa -- looks great! If someone had not stolen my shoes after my last gig, I would be "running" down to the Post Office to order one today! |

I feel the urge to comment on this great item. I received one of these beverage holders from Jon just before I left for my New Year's Eve gig. It more than did it's job. The little gadget held my beverages the entire evening, AND when a fight broke out, I simply snapped it loose from the leg of my Zum, and struck one of the vagabonds upside the head, rendering him senseless. It was enough to get him off the stage and away from my guitar. I would have hit him with a beer bottle, but there was a little bit left in it. Then on the way home, my upper radiator hose came loose. I simply screwed the beverage holder down with my slot head screw driver until the hose was tight again! Seriously, everyone should get one of these. I love mine. It will also fold flat so you can store it in your steel guitar seat. ------------------ Band Pics |

Man, if this is the "Penultimate" accessory, I can't wait to see what you come up with for the "Ultimate" accessory! Hmmm... |

This is so good, I agree. But wait there's more! For the nicotine fiends we have a special ashtray insert. I do not endorse this behavior, but it provides customer substrate for my day job.
There is one order ready to ship! Get yours so that I may never get the buffing rouge off my fingers. I ship when I have your snail mail address, not when I cash your check. |

Jon, does it come with a counter? Sometimes my beverage consumption goes a little too far South, and I don't realize it 'til the next day. |

Jon, Can you make me one for my 6-string? Or better yet for my fishing rod? Happy New Year! Great idea. ------------------ |

Well, it appears that the Broad St boys have shown some interest! Being a Philly native myself, I see the appeal. Jim, there is no ultimate, except for war, and I have my fingers crossed. David, I haven't planned on a counter; far too complex. However, after several years of testing, I have found that it does not work as well with Lite beer. How about a pressure-sensitive platform at the bottom, that detects the amount of, um, fluid left in your can or bottle and once it reaches a certain threshold, lights up a blinker on the front of your axe telling the waitress or waiter to bring another... Maybe that's for the upgraded version? |

Nice touch with the clamp, guess I could use it as an emergency fix for my car radiator. But a touch of duct tape "Arkansas Chrome" would add some class. |

Well there are three new happy owners of Penultimate. I have been weighing all of the suggestions for improvements. Adding electronics to it such as cameras, pagers, flashing lights, and GPS signaling all in the hopes of getting a refill are out of the question. There was also an idea from some to add an ethanol tester, but with all of us being such masters of taste and tone anyway, I thought that it was superfluous. I know that the weak link (aesthetically) is the hose clamp. I have searched the hardware arena, both vintage and big box for another solution, but it is so thin and flexible that it works well, and permits it to fold up. I will take suggestions, but duct tape will not do. Perhaps former Philly resident, and designer Mr. Winston has a suggestion. Thanks to b0b for creating this venue, and I await any response. |

these are great, wish I removed the drink before breaking down my steel though, my neighbors five year old son pointed out that the holder can be detached from the leg so now I don't have to have sit on the case to get all my latches closed. This may be the piece of equipment Steve Gambrell will trade his rack gear for. [This message was edited by jim milewski on 11 January 2005 at 12:39 PM.] |

Jon, Will you be setting up a booth at any of the steel guitar conventions this year? Do you have the T-shirts available yet? Terry |

Terry, This has been a bit of a tongue in cheek project. I lose $$ on every one I make, but I enjoy it. Doing the photos and posting it has been a hoot. I will bring some to Dallas and have them for anyone who wants one. By the way check out the logo.

I used the little gagdet again last night with great success. Someone bought the band a round of drinks. So I just stick mine in Jon's handy accessory. So, my drummer looks over at me and says to let him see it for a minute. I hand it over to him and he snaps it on one of his cymbal stands. Then he says "I gotta get me one of these" So, these are drummer friendly as well. ------------------ Band Pics |

Penultimate...sounds greek to me. I have a Peterson Strobe Tuner and the leg holder is awful, I don't know how they got away with selling that with the tuner, it falls off, anyhow, you got anything that would hold that particular tuner? Thanks, |

Sorry Leila, it will only hold things that are of no practical value. That is beer, whiskey, champagne, or a minor league ashtray. I actually keep my StroboStomp on the floor. Someone has a clamp for the Strobe Tuner. It would be the ultimate if it could hold that too! |

It seems to me as though any kind of insulator or cooling material might encourage you to drink too slowly, which could be a very bad idea if you play with some of the kinds of bands I've been in....in vino oblivitous.... |

quote: As have I, and I can't help but grieve for the mistreatment of the fine glassware in the illustrations. Perhaps some shrink tubing applied to the clamp would prevent this. After all, glass used so nobly must deserve comfort in parity with that which, in its way, it provides for us. |
