Announcing the release of "The Hag Bag", which consists of my new 12 track Merle Haggard steel guitar tribute CD with guest Ralph Mooney, and a lot more. You can purchase any part of the package, or save money by getting the complete "Hag Bag" or "Deluxe Hag Bag". Here's the scoop:

"Old Hag" CD = 12 Hag classics played on E9th, three of which feature "The Moon" in true form. Two other songs feature country artist Shane Worley, who sings the choruses.
Rhythm Tracks CD = My usual R/T's which everyone seems to like a lot. Only the steel is removed, so you have a full 6 and 7 peice band to back you as you play these classic Hag tunes.
U B The Sideman CD = This CD contains the basic tracks (no lead instruments except piano) and the fantastic vocals of Shane Worley, complete with sparkling harmonies. The lead instruments have been removed so that you can play the intros, turnarounds, and play fills to sharpen your skill at backing a great singer.
Nashville Number Charts = Charts are useful in several ways. They help in learning the songs, and no changes need to be made to the chart when you want to play in any other key. Basic instruction in reading charts is supplied. All are in text files for complete compatibility with everyone's computer.
Tablature = Four of the most beautiful songs on the CD have been tabbed out and are supplied in JPEG pictures so they can be printed from any computer. (The charts and copedent are included on the CD with the tab.)
Vocal Instruction = Two companion CDs are supplied with the tab containing more than two and a half hours of vocal instruction and demonstration. I go through each of the four songs note for note, phrase for phrase, and tell how I played them.
Copedent = My tuning and pedal arrangement is supplied for further understanding of the material.

Well, that's a little information. You can get complete details, hear sound samples, and place your order by clicking the link below the picture.

Just a reminder that you don't have to buy the whole Hag Bag to get the CD, the tracks, or any other part of the package. Another thing which makes this bag unique is that it is upgradable. Let's say you bought the CD and then wanted the rest of the "Bag", you would then pay 17.00 less and the rest of the Hag Bag items would be shipped to you. Same concept if you bought the CD and the rhythm tracks...take 34.00 off the Bag price.

Pretty good system, huh? You bet!

Although most orders have gone through without a hitch, I occasionally have someone who has a problem processing their order through the website. If that is the case, just send:

Hey Mike

I have been listening to your CD's ( the Deluxe Hag Bag package) instructional material. This is a great way to teach . I wish you would do a song a month like this at least. This material gives it a player line by line.

Regards
Will

Thanks Farris & Will.

All responses to The Hag Bag have been extremely positive. I did receive one welcome suggestion for an improvement by making the Tab larger and I'm working on that.

I'd like to state again that if you like to listen to pedal steel but have no desire to learn the songs, play to tracks, etc., the "Old Hag" CD is a steel guitar instrumental "album" with far more steel on it than modern production laws allow. I'm expecting the Metro Studio Police to knock down my door at any moment and haul me off & chromatically seal me into the rut of solo confinement.
If you're not concerned about being found guilty by association, you can order just the "Old Hag" CD, and enjoy 12 good ol' Merle songs played on E9th Zum and Emmons by me, punctuated by "moonyish" fills on a fine old Fender (also by me). Then BAM! WHAM! ZONKO! The REAL Ralph Mooney bursts onto the scene and spreads his magic Mooney style over the musical fabric of three of the songs like smoking Bakersfield butter!

We think you'll like it.

I purchased this "Hag Bag" product of Mike's. This listening/instructional package is one of the coolest concepts I've seen! I have played most of these songs for years, but was curious/hungry for a new approach to some of them. I am way pleased with it, as I have been with any product I've purchased from Mike and highly recommend it!

I have spent the better part of two nights working with this cd package. It is absolutely great and easy to learn from.
Print out your own tabs and listen to the line by line step by step instruction is great.
If you are a beginner or intermediate you will love this. even my instructer is wanting to get a copy.
For a 6 cd package, you can't beat the price

While I only got the tracks and steel versions, I couldn't be happier. Great music to listen to and great tracks to play along with. You can't buy better and you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for replying guys. I do appreciate you!

I'm very happy with the response I've gotten from those who've purchased the Hag Bag, and the single CDs. Some just get the "Old Hag" instrumental CD, some the tracks, some the "Sideman" CD, and some get only the tab & instruction CDs.

If you just like listening straight ahead country steel, that's what you'll find on "Old Hag".

I got the Deluxe Hag Bag in the mail yesterday. I listened to the CD on my half hour drive home. I got to play around with the entire package for a couple of hours last night. I must commend Mike on this well thought out package. I especially like the U-B the Sideman CD with Shane singing. Mikes copedent is unusual but he offers alternative approaches when this occurs. Good Stuff folks!

Rather than a new post, I thought I'd just give this one a bump. I'll be at the Dallas Show with The Hag Bag, The Buddy Emmons "Phases" prints and T-shirts, plus the rest of my CDs and rhythm tracks. Please drop by.

The "Old Hag" CD (Merle Haggard Steel Guitar Tribute) will be in the Forum calalog within a couple of weeks. I have a policy that if you buy any part of "The Hag Bag" (such as the Old Hag CD), you can upgrade to the rest of the Hag Bag at any time with full credit toward the purchase. If you buy "Old Hag" from the forum, I will still honor that upgrade.

Farris,

Thank you for your enthusiasm! It really is rewarding to hear back from anyone who appreciates the effort it takes to turn out something like this. I appreciate all who have bought the "Bag", "Old Hag" or any other part of the package.

I just mailed a copy of "Old Hag" to Merle, who sent me word he'd love to hear it. I'm sure he wants to see what his old pal, Mooney has been up to. Still pickin' his butt off, that's what!

The other day, out of the wild blue, this song started going through my mind just crystal clear. I went and turned on my amp and played it with no problem; I knew the title but I couldn't remember whose CD. Anyway it was from Mike's "Up To The Gills", plus I picked up a new lick. It's funny how the sub-conscious can work for you.

Basil & Frank,

If you are willing to take the Hag Bag CDs and graphics without the jewel cases (you would then put them into your own jewel cases when they arrive), there would be no additional charge. If you want the materials packaged in cases and shrink wrap, then please ad $5.00 and I will cover the rest of the postage.

Basil, I very much enjoyed working with Robert Mizzell. He is one of the finest singers, entertainers, and people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I expected that because he was Ireland's #1 country artist, he would have an attitude and be hard to work with. I found the opposite to be true and I hope to work with him again in the future. I have heard the Mizzell cuts you played on and I compliment you on the fine steel work.

All the best,

Mike

Thanks guys. I appreciate all the folks who have replied back to me with such favorable comments. Most ask if I plan to do another such project, and the answer is affirmative. In fact, I have at least two more on the table now for future release. The next one will most likely be released right before the St. Louis Show.

Hi Mike and everybody on the forum, I have got a copy of Old Hag, and it is a great CD. Plus other than featuring Mike on steel, which he does a bang up job, it also features one of my favorites of all time, my friend RALPH MOONEY!!!!!!!! You owe it to your self to pick up a copy from Mike.
