Firstly, thanks for the super response to Shuffles, Ballads, and Waltzes. It's great the way you've accepted it.

New now for January 2006 is the follow-up to SBW. Again I designed it for the experienced beginner through intermediate level player, and included is 10 arrangements of popular country standards heard every night on thousands of bandstands.

Once more, I stress PLAYING THE MELODY, which I feel is the best way to break the mindset of non-melodic "licks" playing, understand scales played in harmony, and to learn the fretboard of the steel guitar with alternate positions for minor chords, dominant (b7) chords, and major-seventh chords as well.

Each solo track is between 1 1/2 minutes to 2 1/2 minutes in length and plays the song in its entirety, frequently with several choruses. Generally, each song has a 4 bar intro and a 4 bar tag or "outro."

Following each track with my recorded solo is the rhythm track I used for backup. The student then has a rhythm track to play to himself. The CD is over 40 minutes in length. The 24-page book contains the note-for-note tablature of the music I played on the CD, with an explanation included of my tablature system. I've tried to assemble the songs in increasing order of proficiency, but of course your mileage may vary.

The songs included in this course are:

Together Again - D (includes the Tom Brumley solo, more)
Four Walls - C (JIm Reeves waltz hit)
The End Of The World - Eb (Skeeter Davis classic)
Funny How Time Slips Away - E (Ray Price, Willie Nelson Jimmy Day style)
You Took Her Off My Hands - F (Ray Price classic shuffle, with Emmons-style solo)
Don't You Ever Get Tired Of Hurting Me - G (Ray Price shuffle, more)
Hold It - C (steel classic usually on C6)
My Special Angel - C (Bobby Helms hit)
Lonely Street - Bb (Ray Price shuffle style)
That's All That Matters To Me- D (Hank Cochran classic, Price, Bush, Gilley)

The price for this course is $27.00, postage paid in the continental USA. Please contact me for shipping charges outside the USA.

It's not up on my website yet, but will be in a couple of days. USA residents can save the shipping charges by sending a $25 via Paypal to retrobilly@austin.rr.com and mention the Forum. I'll get one right out to ya.

As noted above, I can't make the "no shipping charges" offer to those living outside the United States, sorry.

Or you can send a check/money order to:

Now there's a smart, frugal shopper! Excellent decision. One copy of each course will be most certainly reserved for you.

And a big muchas gracias to Jeff G. for being the first to order online!

Herb, really appreciate the quality you put into your Rhythm Tracks! I just purchased your Hank Williams' tracks and I'm sure they'll be great. Hope to see you at the Big D show in March--Carl

I'll send you an order. 10 songs for $25, thats a bargain. What's a Lone Star beer cost at the bar these days, probably about S2.50 ? That's about a beer a song! I'll send cash via paypal or if you prefer, I can just owe you a case of Lone Star...your choice

Herb,
Your choice of words in the first paragraph of your initial post "its great the way you've accepted it" set some bells ringing.
Are you quoting from Ray Prices spoken introduction to "Night Life" or have I just been listening to too many shuffles?
Either way I look forward to picking up a copy in Dallas.

Thanks to Chuck, Don 1, Don 2, Donald, Larry, Gaeron, Scott 1, Scott 2, Richard, Curt, Ray, Roger, Gordon, et al. for y'all's continued support so far in April.

I've taken on a lot more road work in the past couple of months with Gary P. Nunn and the Sons of the Bunkhouse, but I think I've got a handle on what you folks want to learn. So I'm in the process of beginning another course. Stay tuned... guitars and other things.

I just want to add a plug here. I have known Herb for over 15 years or so. We were band mates with Johnny Bush's Bandolero's. You will not go wrong with anything this guy sells. He is honest and sincere about his products and he will treat you right!
