I have a National New Yorker that has no case. It's only a six stringer, but it probably has the best sound and is the most fun to play of my guitars. I'd like to get some sort of case to carry it in, but don't want to spend a lot of money on it. I keep it on a stand in the house, so only need something to transport it in from place to place. I know the gig bags don't protect as well as a hard case, but assuming I don't drop it or bang it around, would a gig bag be a good choice for some light protection?

If I got a hard case, I'd probably need to have a piece of foam cut to the shape of the guitar to cradle it....

Jeff, take a look at the Shotgun and Rifle Hard Shell Cases at your local Wal-mart. You might find what you are looking for and not very expensive either.

I wouldn't chance a vintage steel like that in a gig bag. As careful as you can be, "stuff happens" even when you take it from one room to another in your own house.

Go to Wal-Mart Jeff, and may the force be with you.

If you do opt for the gigbag, try this. I bought one for my Fry Pan and it's amazingly secure.

These guys made me a custom case for my bakelite and it came out perfect. The price was very low also.

I think you need a case like mine:

I know, I know, they're not exactly "available" but I wanted an excuse to show it off.

I bought the Style 1-CE, 1/8 Classical. It fits the A-22 Fry Pan perfectly. The bag itself is about 28" (inside) in length.

Hi Jeff,

I love gig bags and would not hesitate to use one for a National or just about any lap steel except for a Bakelite (too brittle).

All times are Pacific (US)
