To Sam Marshall and to ever else it may concern at the Kingdom Of Tweed. Larry? Don? look at the dedication you have. Consider doing a non pedal limited if necessary run of guitars for these people.. You will sell more than you think.Check out all the Fender followers you folks have made. There are thousands asking for a non pedal Fender steel. You made your mark with the Steel King..why not non pedal steel guitars? |

It's got to have a different name than "Steelmaster". Herb Remington already has that name. We don't want Fender involved in another "Broadcaster" dispute, do we? But I would strongly look forward to such a guitar. Single coils of course! |

I can always use one more steel - OK, put me down for a QuadNeck 22 1/4" - Custom Pearloid finish please! I already have a Steel King on order, but as soon as I get the Pearloid QuadNeck I would have to order another one - stereo, y'know . . And while you're at it - how about making replacement tuners?!?

Jody I'm glad to see your still selling Steels ! What might work out here would be a Kit - Guitar or one that you could order complete - Single - Double - Ect, or order the extra neck - (that I wish I had )- where I could add the third neck to my Double . Just an Idea but it sounds good to me - it might even make replacement parts available to refurbish the String masters .Keep Truck'n Old buddy if anybody can sell a Steel you can ! Bob H |

If Fender really wanted to sell some of these, I'd let a rock musician name the new guitar. One came up to me the other day at a gig and told me I played a really cool "slide lap thing."I told him I'd been playing slide lap thing a long time, and he asked if it was hard. I replied "not at the moment, no." ------------------ Herb's Steel Guitar Pages Texas Steel Guitar Association

Rick I dont think it would be what you think it is They sound great but no blend sontrol and it had the "stove type legs" that were not as stable as the legs that angle out.Noel Boggs kept all necks open and doing so added more treble than bass even though he adjusted his tone control on his guitar to blend in some bass. That is what gave Leo Fender the idea of designing the blend control. I remember Noel telling me that he had no way to cut the treble and when he did the guitar was muffled. The slide switches were difficult to operate so thats what made LF design the push button switches. I wished I had a four way blade throw rather than the push button setup, but all things considered they are great guitars. The 26" length was a real great sustaining guitar but it broke strings often in the high register. What you have is fine. All things considered Noel preffered the Custom over the Stringmaster but being a consultant for Leo he had to use the Stringmaster,If you listen to some of his early recordings you can hear the amount of treble on his playing. Johnny Sibert had one like Noels and it sounded great so maybe it was my taste that was not tuned into such a treble tone. I can check to see how many Stringmaster were produced and I can say they were in the thousands. I'll e mail you an article from back in the 50's from the LA Times..you might like reading it. Be well and talk at atcha soon. edited to say "right on Ron" [This message was edited by Jody Carver on 05 January 2005 at 07:32 AM.]

Hey Jody I have the blend control set up on my Deluxe 8 backwards from standard. That is, the neck pickup is always on and it blends in the bridge pickup. I just love the sound of that neck pickup, and I don't always need the twang. Did anybody else do that in the good old days?------------------ www.tyack.com

Yeah, my preference is 22 1/2" It just seems like the slants lower on the neck are more accurate - especially those pesky 3-string slants . . Slants up higher on the neck are a bit trickier to nail, but what is life without challenge?!? What I'd really like to get my hands on is - a 22 1/2" QuadNeck - did Fender make them like that? And who has one they'd like to sell cheap? [This message was edited by Rick Alexander on 05 January 2005 at 11:51 AM.] |
