Lew, former steel player for Conway Twitty, and many many more, is improving greatly from his struggle with a re-occurance of cancer. Folks, he's been fighting for a LONG time. Thanks for all of your prayers! He's feeling a lot better, and he's gaining weight. He will be going to Florida in a couple of weeks for a steel guitar convention. I have no idea what the steel convention is called, where, when, or anything. But, maybe someone knows on here, and can enlighten us. Folks, if you've never heard Lew play, you've just never heard the limits of the steel guitar. He uses a LAMAR steel guitar (He makes them himself. GREAT guitars. See for yourself), And 2 amps (stereo). He uses his own tuning, and it's just great! AND GUESS WHAT??????? HE DON'T USE A VOLUME PEDAL. I'm sure some of the older steel guitarists on the forum remember the volume roll knob. That's what he uses, because he needs both feet for pedals and knee levers. It sounds just the same, and stops buzz from the pedal, so actually, he's got the perfect set-up. AND BOY, CAN HE PLAY!!!!! Thanks for all that sent letters, and posted replies to previous posts. Your responses made it all possible. Thank you. There is a reason that all these people sent letters. Lew is a great friend, an honest person, and really STEELS the show!!! He has a VERY distinct style. He does this style called Chicken Pickin' (I dunno if thats the right name for it, but that's what my dad calls it.) But, anyway, I've never heard anyone pick that way better than Lew. And, I've heard a lot of steel players. Anyway, Lew and his family, and I, would like to say thanks, for everything. |

I'm real glad that Lew is getting better. I played a show with him in Alabama and was greatly impressed with his playing. Real nice guy too. |

Well, there have been three shows here in Florida this year and no more that I know of scheduled. The three were Plant City, Wildwood and Jacksonville. |

Indeed about Lew Houston's playing. Soooo very impressed by him when I first saw him play, I had to have him at the Atlanta show. He is truly unique. To watch him almost defies logic!! Simply awesome. He plays like NO other steel player on earth. For years and years, he played an old Fender 400 with four pedals and NO knee levers with BOTH feet. And as has been mentioned, he does NOT use a volume pedal. He curls his little finger around the volume control on the top of the guitar. But you would swear he is using a volume pedal. His feet dance across the pedals like quicksilver in the most exciting way imaginable. I do NOT believe there is a song he cannot play. His playing style, like Curley Chalker and Julian Tharpe, is so very individualized. Unbelievably unigue. It is my understanding that he now has knee levers. Truly the most incredibly delightful player I have EVER seen. If you have not seen Lew play, you are going be amazed if you ever see him pick. His fingers and feet will simply dazzle you. You will spend more time watching his feet than his fingers. God richly bless you Lew Houston, and all of you, carl |

I forgot to mention, if you'd like to say anything to Lew, this is being mailed right to him, so feel free to say what you'd like to him. If you say it, he'll get it. I guarentee. |
