HI BOB - Why not include FT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA in your tour, It's 80 degrees, blue skies, lots of babes at the beach and all you need to perform out doors with is shorts & T-shirts and bring your own sun tan lotion. It's pina colda time, cha, cha.

It seems every PSG player (99.2%) avoids this area, which include Miami, Ft. Lauderdale & West Palm Beach (total Pop. 3-4 million people). There's lots of out door music this time of year and all kinds of festivals.

There's not much country but we have tons of blues, jazz, swing & rock, etc., after all most of the people here are from NYC including myself.

One thing we don't have and that's, cold wind, ice & freezing snow, which is a something, you might miss.

In Miami we have SOUTH BEACH, man does this place roar with activity, almost like the Village in NYC,(the Village has no beach) and talk about those young Latin chicks in Miami, I thought NYC had lots of sultry hot tan Latin babes, sorry NYC, Chicago, L.A. FORGOT ABOUT IT.... Seeing is believing.

So Bob, just head south from Jacksonville and come on down.....You might just stay.

Hey Bob,
If I'm not out of town I'll see you in Portland 2/22.

Here is the City Search info on the Meow Meow (must be fairly new cuz I haven't heard of it before).

I look forward to meeting you guys out there.

I'm interested in the whole genre of
"indie rock". It seems like pretty fertile ground so far. These young guys I'm working with on this gig have some pretty deep music in them and there own way of expressing it. Plus they let me play anything I want.

Good luck, Bob. I'll catch you on the rebound. Good thing those young indie guys have an "old hand" like you to show them the ropes!

First couple gigs went pretty good..... In Boston all our amps got blowed up real good by some power surge in the 2nd set. Smoke, sparks, splattered capacitor guts and everything. So its borrowed gear last night. In NYC the house was full and all band members were still sober and on speaking terms. It don't get much better than that !

I've got some pre release copies of my CD with me for sale for $5. I actually managed to sell a couple by including my drink tickets in the bargain.

Bob, I hope the Ybor City gig went well last night and you got out OK.

I would have loved to hear you but Ybor City (in Tampa) is not a place for anyone over about 25, at night. A bouncer at one of the clubs was shot (killed) two nights ago.

Hey Bob, sorry I missed your show at the Middle East. The Victory at Sea guys had nice things to say about you from the show in DC.

Its been a good time so far. I took some time before soundcheck and got a lesson from Maurice Anderson today. That alone makes a trip like this worth while !

Lots of kids out here going nuts for the steel guitar every night.

On to New Mexico and then California.

I got to meet Susan Alcorn at the Houston show.

The music has been great and the guys are into finding good local food so its been a nice trip so far.

It is good to hear your updates Bob. Does this band play indie rock only or are there shades of alt country in there too?
Albert Svenddal (Mpls forumite and great steelplayer) is looking forward to meeting you when you get to Mpls. Like I said, I'll be out of town. If you are passing thru Boulder CO on Feb 25, 26 or 27 give me a call- 612.695.4107

Sage,
If there is any alt country in this show don't blame it on me !

These gigs have absolutly nothing to do with that scene. There is a world of gigs and steel loving kids in the "Indie Rock" scene.
I'm finding out about all sorts of youth sub culture. This band draws the "Emo" crowd. Then there are piles of "Straight edge" kids that look like a cross between punk rockers and Hari Krisna guys. They don't take drugs or drink and there Mom's drop them off at the all ages shows. They are mainly into Fugazi, whoever the heck they are.

I keep on bumping into "Math Rock" bands which is just about the same thing as all that awful music that came from the great rock fusion scare of the 70's. We are talking lead bass here...

I'm having a ball and could use some sleep.

I saw Bob Hoffnar a few days ago on this tour, playing for Kyle Fischer and Owen. I enjoyed the show a lot. Bob is succeeding at his goal of playing creative, good sounding steel guitar in a setting where steel has never been heard before. And people like it even tho they have never seen a steel guitar before.
