Hi everyone. I don't know if you've heard about the "country" version of American Idol called "Nashville Star" on the USA Network... Anyway, look for me, the guy with no hair, sitting behind the steel guitar and pulling some Dobro and guitar duties for the contestants as well. The show begins it's run on March 8th I believe. Should be an interesting ride.

Hey Dave, I just seen the ad for it a few minutes ago. Looks like it might be fun to watch. Also sounds like the judges are going to hurt a lot of feelings. I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing you.

Hey Dave, I too enjoyed the show and the Steel was great, what little we heard.

I hope that the show is not about how tuff the judges can be on the guests. They were pretty tuff on a few.

This certainly is not the Gong Show but some were close.

I particularly enjoyed one of the opening segments where they cut and paste about a dozen female singers all singing the same line on Martina's Broken Wing. It was very cool and funny.

It's a good show and has promise.

You looked good up there . You were better than all of the selected winners .Some of them looked pretty good and some even sang pretty good but I didn't see or hear the next
Faith, Martina , Jo Dee or Joe Nichols . At least not last night.

I did see Bart Hanson who I've seen on Broadway and liked a lot. , He was whistling..what was he thinking ? National TV and he decides to whistle ?

Bart, if your listening, Dude..next time sing..

Great job Dave! It looks like fun. The lead singer for one of the bands I play with tried out for it. He did pretty well, making it through the preliminary rounds. If he made it past Los Angeles, you might have ended up playing for him on the show. They liked his singing and his looks, but didn't think the original song he performed showed off his vocal skills or song writing abilities enough. Maybe next time. Keep up the good work. -- Marc

I just saw you on T.V. Dave. You sounded great. We had that thing come through Buffalo
and my band supplied the P.A. equipment for it. They should rename the show "Just Another
Bimbo singing Broken Wing", or "If I hear " If Tomorrow Never Comes one more time I'm gonna kill myself". It was ridiculous. There were 100 "contestants". I saw three with any real talent and none of them had the looks or stage presence to be a star. Someone made alot of money.

Hi guys, the show was a hoot! Remember that the 90 minute first episode was edited down from around 500 hours of tape. The judges are all great, yes there are some tough comments, but at the regional finals we played for about 125 contestants and some were good and others okay. The first episode was compiled from the regionals and were filmed in San Dimas,CA,,Kansas City,,Houston,,Baltimore,, and Nashville. There was also footage from the first rounds.
My rig was made simple by the fact that there was a ton of line noise created by all the lighting etc. I ended up using my POD through a PV Nashville 400, and was at the mercy of the sound engineer who tracked all the shows. He is a great guy, but had to have me down in the mix for a few shows due to buzzes. Trust me, he knows what he's doing. The rest of the episode will be shot live here in Nashville on a soundstage in the Acuff theatre. I get to stay home and work for a change.
Keep watching, there should be some fun moments.

I enjoyed the band, especially Dave's playing, so much that my wife and I watched both the 9:00 PM slot and the 10:30 repeat last night.

This was some of the tastiest steel playing I've heard on TV in a long time.

Congratulations Dave. Have you always had that David Wright hair cut?

Mr. Ristrim, have you ever played any of the shows at Fan Fair? My daughter and I saw some one there a couple of years ago backing some of the acts that looks alot like you . Or at least you have the same barber... Ha Ha. If that was you , we really liked your playing....

Howdy all, yes I have played Fan Fair a few times. I have been shaving my head since 1995 when I decided a no hair was better than a bad hair day. Gary Morse also has been "clean headed" for awhile and we get mistaken for each other. I don't know how Gary feels about that but I find it a lot of fun.
A guick update on the show rig... Line6 rules. I am using both the POD Pro and a Vetta Head and 2-12 cab now for the show. The Vetta head has incredible amp models. I am using the "Twin" model and am customising some more patches as we speak. I am also using one of my Rane Map 33s. I am keeping it very simple as the stage "set" got changed at the last minute and I am set up on a postage stamp riser. Let me just say, I can hear the drums just fine!

Yes, I did say Greg Morse, I meant Gary of course. I have a good guitar playing friend in California named Greg Morse. Sorry Gary.
