This weekend Donna and I will be moving from east Tennessee to Springfield MO. I was raised in that area and still have family there. It will be good to be back with the clan after 50+ years. Looking forward also to meeting steel players and other musicians in that area and attending shows in Branson, Ark, OK, Ks and Texas, somebody else's steel shows for a change. I will be off line from Thursday through Monday. |

Fred, when you get moved be sure and get in touch with me and come over to some of our meetings in Baxter Springs, Kansas. We meet the first Sunday of each month and we'd love to have you here. We're just 15 miles west of Joplin, Mo. As you know, there are a lot of steelers here in the center of the country. Looking forward to meeting you. Ray Qualls-President(KSGA) |

Fred-I never thought you would leave that smoky mountain country. But I understand , family and old homestead is a big reason to move. MO is a beautiful state especially in the ozarks mountain area. I moved from California and Ariozona to Michigan for family reasons too.It looks like you made a good move....Merry Christmas.....al ------------------ |

Hi Fred. We have The Little O' Opry show in Westfork, Ar about 8 miles South of Fayetteville, Ar every Saturday night. It is a totally unrehearsed show with a lot of talented performers. We are not too far from Springfield, Mo. I have been playing steel and Dobro on the show for 13 years. We have had some great performers on the show including Jenee Keener grew up playing there and Joe Nichols, this years Horizon Award winner used to perform with us. You are invited to come check out our show anytime. Welcome back home. Jerry |

Thanks fellows. We are finally pretty well settled in and enjoying the Missouri Ozarks again. Thanks to those of you who have sent upcoming show dates in the area. I will be seeing most of you. As announced earlier and reported in the Pedal Steel Guitar Newsletter, I sold the Flynn inventory to Chuck Back in Tucson on July 31st. Chuck was on the road playing steel for 20 years and has built several steels as well as worked on numerous other ones over the years. He also does summer gigs with Johnny Rodriguez, playing lead. Hundreds and thousands of parts for the Flynn and Russler pedal steels are available from Chuck. Email him at Figueroamaf@AOL.com, or write him at 2954 W. Corte Olivia, Tucson, AZ 85741. He is in process of setting up a web site. Chuck brings a lot of experience and enthusiasm to the new company. He is busy redesigning and updating the guitar body and undercarriage, but will continue to use the patented Flynn changer mechanism which I sold to him in the deal. He will be manufacturing under a different brand name, yet to be officially announced. He made every plan to be at Mesa but one of his parts sources failed to deliver on time, leaving him unable to complete three guitars for the show. He will be at the Dallas show in March to unveil the new guitar. By mutual agreement, I am completing two Flynn pedal steels (S10 and D10) that I had all the parts made for and in process at the time of the sale. When we decided to move back to Springfield I took a hard look at the situation and decided not to go through the arduous and expensive task of moving all the machinery and inventory, locating a new shop, etc., etc. Chuck had been ordering parts from me for an old Russler he had, and in one of our phone conversations I mentioned in passing that I was considering selling the company. He immediately jumped at the change and the rest is history. Our house in Springfield has a tree-car garage and I have basic shop tools in one garage and will be puttering around rehabbing a half-dozen older steels I have. But, at this stage of life, I want to play more and build less. Playing time really decreased while I was building and I look forward to getting back into "woodshedding" to regain some technique.
