You know, anyone that posts and releases a CD on a site named "Steelrain", can't be all bad! After all, he uses the name Steel in it. Alright, that was bad, but.....! Back in November of last year, I had posted an ad on a local California Bay Area web site called "Craigs List". A little background on the site..., most of, 'er..., a lot of the ads are fake from weirdo's just goofing around. Now the site is real and suppose to be a serious forum for musicians to post ads for other musicians to read and respond to. Musicians looking for bands, gigs, etc. etc. My experience with it has not been very positive! I've responded to ads from people who make promises to show for try-outs and such, who wind up flaking on me! Out of maybe twenty-five to thirty responses, three, maybe four were positive. The rest..., I never heard from again, or the others would never email me back nor answer their phones again. I just gave up on them, and almost gave up on the website. One day in October last year, I did receive a response by phone about my ad, from a gentleman by the name of Jeff Hellman. He was in the middle of putting together a CD, and wondered if I'd be intrested in laying some tracks on his CD project. Of course after laying low on my playing for about four to five years, I was ready to play anything, so I jumped at the chance. I arrived at his studio, and laid down one track for him. His response was..., "Wow! That's such a neat instrument!" He asked me if I'd be intrested in playing on three more tracks, and of course I agreed. Problem was..., the other tracks were not ready for me to play on them, so we agreed on another day for me to come back, to finish off the others. I've found out that he is a very creative sort, but in my wildest dreams, I never imagined!! Anyway, to make an even longer story short..., check out his website and what he had to say about the steel guitar and my playing abilities: Then check out some samples of the songs at: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/steelrain. I played on four of them. Numbers 3, 5, 7 and 9. Not my best work, but remember, I just started playing again after taking a five year hiatius of no playing at all.
