Hi Duane,
I'm over on the west side of the mountains now. But I started my steel guitar playing career in Spokane. Bought a brand new Sho-Bud Maverick from Hoffman's Music. I played some gigs with Del's Lariatts. We played at the Alaskan Club in Hillyard and went out to the Wildlife Club in Coulee City. I don't know if those still exist, pretty rough places but it was my start. I used to go and listen to a player named Jimmy Tillet (?), not sure I got his name just right, its many years ago. Then I played at The Smokeshop Beer Parlor with Joe "PeeWee" Felice in the house band until he sold it and it became Washboard Willie's. Later I met the guy from Excel Steel Guitars, Bob Waites. He gave me a copy of an LP by Neil Livingston. I wonder if Neil is around there still? Anyway, guess I'm just saying that I have some connection to your area there, and wish you guys a great event.
Best regards,
Johnny

John, thanks for the reply. For starters the Alaskian Tavern is no longer in business-Thank God. Washboard Willies is no longer around either. Bob Waites moved to Hawaii about 15 years ago and Neil is alive and well-living in Spokane. Although not playing steel anymore because of blindness. Duane Becker

Thanks for the update Duane, its been a long time. Your website for the Northwest Steel Guitar Association is really great, lots of pics. If I lived just a little closer I'd come out to the Valley Eagles and hear ya play. Looks like you folks have a really nice group there. Best wishes.

One of the motels that is close is the Comfort Inn N. 7111 Division. 509-467-7111 or 800-228-5150 Another one is Royal Scot Motel 6507 N. Division 509-467-6672 or 888-467-scot Starting in 2006, I am happy to report that the Northwest steel association will be moving the jam to a hotel complex to make it easier on everyone. Duane Becker

We are on target to have a great jamboree on Sunday. Current schedule includes these showcase players: Duane Becker, Joe Evans, Darrell Klein, Warren France, Dean Simmons, Jim Arnold, Chris Howe, Jim Watkins, Lee Lessig, Dave Burton. We anticipate a number of other steelers who will participate in the round robin playing and help with logistic thoughout the day.
Sunday Morning will begin with a short worship service by member Larry Meier. Juanita Anstin will again provide some beautiful vocals during the Gospel segment. We certainly appreciate all the support we've received from inside and outside our NWSGA membership.
Our extended showcase for this jam will pay tribute to the music of Ray Price.
If you are in the Spokane area this Sunday, be sure to catch this day long event! Details are found at www.nwsteelguitar.com

I would like to extend a big thank you to all involved with the NWSG asso. jam in Spokane. It was well thought out and went off without a hitch.Duane and Joel's work here did not go unnoticed and great talents too! The Ray Price set was the music I learned to play steel on and it sure brought back many memories. I am looking forward to the next time we get toghether in May. I understand there just might be some big name suprises! Dave
