![]() I'll be joining the Classic Albums Live gang to recreate Neil Young's 'Harvest' album from 1972. Classic Albums Live was formed in Toronto by a fellow named Craig Martin. The company consists of fifty or so musicians in Canada and the US who perform some of the most popular albums of recent decades: Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, etc., in authentic musical style, with no hype. Just good music. They have met with some success in this venture. This is about as far as you get from the Moose/Elks lodge / VFW gig, but I'm really looking forward to it. Big Ben Keith is all over the album -- not very challenging stuff by today's standards, but extremely tasteful. The Particulars: Come by if you're in the neighborhood -- if not -- wish me luck. ------------------ |

![]() That does sound interesting, Larry. Tell me, are you required to play the parts note-for-note? Is it that kind of thing? |

![]() Does sound like a lot of fun. I was wondering the same thing--are you whipping out your Neil Young stash and studying or are you just going where the music takes you? I agree that Ben Keith sounds perfectly tasteful. This also makes me wonder--are the singers going to try to sing like Neil or are they going to try to sound good? Just joking---sort of. My respects to Mr. Young as a personal stylist but it took me years to accept his voice without judgement.... |

![]() In theory, it's 'note for note' In practice, I'm printing out the lyrics from the web, taking a highlighter and coloring in where I hear steel, then writing in the fret and pedal/lever combination. I don't know what I'll do after that. ![]() I'm sure whatever I do will be perfectly acceptable, as long as I get a few of the prominent signature licks right. It will be fun and, from what I hear, the Hard Rock Live is a great venue to work. ----- ------------------ [This message was edited by Larry Bell on 23 September 2005 at 09:24 AM.] |
