![]() The December issue of Downbeat, probably the oldest and most respected Jazz magazine, has an article entitled "Bebop Hoe-down" which mentions Buddy Emmons and the Forum`s own Jim Cohen. Writer Frank-John Hadley states "Jim Cohen coaxes lush chords from his pedal steel guitar performing 'Yardbird Suite' and 'Cherokee'". Buddy is mentioned in regards to the Gary Burton "Tennessee Firebird" album which Burton says is a favorite of his many recordings. The main focus of the story is the new album "Soulgrass" by saxophonist Bill Evans, which features Bela Fleck,Sam Bush and Dobro-Lap Steel monster Jerry Douglas alongside Jazzers like Evans and John Scofield, but makes refrence to many other Jazz-Country crossovers. Me,I can`t wait to hear the forthcoming (it says, really) Eugene Chadbourne-Anthony Braxton album of Tammy Wynette covers. [This message was edited by Mark Switzer on 26 November 2005 at 06:47 PM.] |

![]() Braxton on Wynette comes as close to "now I've heard everything" as I can imagine. That's pretty whack. |

![]() I've been listening all week to Jerry Douglas playing Birdland with Bela Flak. He kicks serious butt on this cut. [This message was edited by Andy Greatrix on 27 November 2005 at 09:21 AM.] |
