It's a go! There has been a great positive response (why wouldn't there be?) and this C6 workshop is happening without a doubt! Reece and I are very excited about this and promise to make the event well worth attending. I will provide all of the details shortly (please bear with me) and answer the questions that I'm capable of answering. I addition....there will also be something VERY special taking place....stay tuned.... |

Bill M....You have more SuperSlides than we have sitting around at MSA. Very thoughtful of you to offer to bring them. |

Not so nice: I'm going to get you to play them! - It will increase their resell value by 10 times! As if I would ever sell them. |

Reece, If you branch out and decide to do an E9 seminar next in the New York area, let me know and I will be down with my 1977 MSA Classic. Merry Christmas! Larry Jamieson |

Larry J....Thank you for your comment. You may be pleasantly surprised to know how much non-pedal and E9th have in common. If you can make it to the show, I'll provide you an analogy of the two. Thank you for playing an MSA and for being part of the ever growing "MSA family". |

I will be working out the particulars tomorrow and will post the date, time, what to bring, location, directions, cost, forms of payment, and anything else that I can think of. Please hold your questions until I post this info and then I'll address any other questions, comments, jokes, and inebriated ramblings..... |

Ok, the details, but first, let me make the formal announcement......drum roll please... Derango Reinlhiebt Productions, proudly presents......... The Reece Anderson Big Apple C6 Workshop how's that?
It will begin at 10am and end at 4pm with a one hour lunch break. The workshop can accommadate 24 persons, so it is limited. For those who would like to attend but cannot make it on Sunday, and if the Sunday workshop is filled, we have some VERY GOOD NEWS....there can be a Saturday afternoon - evening workshop as long as we have a minimum of five people. The tentative times may range from 3pm - 9pm, 3:30pm - 9:30pm, or 4pm - 10pm depending on Reece's arrival time. We want to make sure that all who are interested have the opportunity to attend. The cost of the workshop is $125.00 Payment options: check, money order, amex, visa, mc checks & money orders made out to: Manny's Millinery Supply Co. Please include your name, address, phone #, email address, and indicate Saturday or Sunday. As of Feb 1, money orders only unless paying by credit card If you wish to pay by credit card, please email your name & phone# ONLY. I will call you and take your information over the phone. If you wish to call me...(212) 840 - 2235/36 or (212) 764 - 2218. The actual address of the store where the workshop will be held, is 28 West 38th St. The awning reads: Manny's Hat Mall. I am in walking distance from Penn Station, Grand Central Station, Times Square, and the 34th St. subway. If you are driving, we are closest to the Lincoln Tunnel and the Midtown Tunnel. You can also take the Queensboro (59th St.) Bridge. Parking on the street: Saturday late afternoon should be no problem. Sunday, you take your chances with regard to finding a space. Sometimes there's plenty of spots, other times, nothing. There are parking garages very nearby, a block in either direction. I think it's around $30.00 for the day. NYC is expensive. What you will need to bring; 6, 8, 10, 12 string steel or resophonic guitar. bar & picks, yeah, I know, duh! but before you run out your door, do a bar & pick check. yes, it happens, and then it's really...duh! and as we're on the subject of forgetting....if you wear reading glasses, put that on your check list. we ain't 20 anymore! a practice amp. preferably battery powered as it will be much easier (for everyone) than having 24 people plugged in all over the place. HEADPHONES!!!!! they're good for you, and everybody else.... A writing utensil & something to write on is always good to have. I always carry one. I'm always ready to take an order.... If I think of anything else, or if anyone thinks of anything else...please post it. [This message was edited by HowardR on 27 December 2005 at 02:34 PM.] |

In addition to the workshop, I will have several unique & interesting steels for all to see and try. The Jerry Byrd Fender. I would much rather have steel players be able to view this one of a kind steel and try it out, rather than being in a museum somewhere behind some barrier. It was made to be played and appreciated. A Canopus D8. You rarely see these. I picked this up on ebay some years ago. "The D'Benoitto", a resophonic 9 string archtop guitar. I may have one or two other neat things floating around....... Also folks, please keep in mind....we can hold a Saturday late afternoon - evening class for those who are interested. The limit for either session is 24 people. First come, first served. Although I can supply a steel(s) if needed, I don't have any extra amps to supply. |

Are there any convenient accomodations nearby that you can recommend? I maybe able to receive funding to attend this event if I can put together some budget figures. A reasonable hotel/ motel that's adjacient to the event would be great. |

This is New York, so there is nothing considered "reasonable". The Howard Johnson's though on 8th ave and 51st (?) street is not too bad. You'd be about 12 blocks and 2 avenues away from Howard's place though. You might try Priceline. Another alternative is to find a place in Hobokan or Jersey City, in New Jersey. There are on the Path train which will take you close to Howard's place and will be more reasonable. However, while it is easy to find for a native, you might be intimidated manuevering the NY area transit system. Anther alternative is to avoid the city completely. Stay at Best Western near me in Nyack, and you can get a ride in with me. |

Chris, Its off season so you should be able to find a good deal. You should have no problem finding a room in a good hotel for around $100 if you need figures for submiting a budget. If you have problems get in touch and I can help dig something up. ------------------

Thanks, boys. There's two of us, and we're working on coming if there's still room. We have a provincial association that funds such events, and we're working on it. We would prefer to have accomodations close to the event, to avoid too much transit, although I do appreciate your offer of a ride, Bill.... Neither of us has been to New York City, and we need to make this as simple as possible if we can come. I'll know more next week.....thanks. |

Here's some information...... The Americana Inn (212) 840-6700 This is on the same block as the workshop. You can roll out of bed and practically land on my Nashville 112.
The rooms are small with a bed, dresser, TV, & sink. They are simple, decent, and clean. The bathrooms are very decent and clean. I always see many foreign students and young tourists at this Inn. The regular hotels in close proximity are between $240.00 and $275.00 per night. [This message was edited by HowardR on 10 January 2006 at 11:05 AM.] |

Thanks, Howard. Good to know. Close proximity is the most important thing, seeing that I've never been to NYC. |

Hello Hiro, A pleasure to see you again at this workshop. The store is much different than you will remember it. You won't have to sit on a bale of straw hats this time.... As I'm "on the fly" a fair amount of time, mailing a check would be fine.

Rick S....Thank you for your kind words. You surely know I'm one of your biggest admirers. Thank you again for playing with me last April at Jim Palenscars steel show. It was a very memorable evening for me, and hopefully others as well. Sidney M....It's always a pleasure to share time with dear friends such as you and little Lindsey "Reece". Steve A....I understand I will have the privilege of seeing you again soon.I appreciate your making it possible. Next time you put on a seminar I would like to be sitting on the front row. I appreciate your musicianship very much. Gerald M....Sure hope you and your friend can find the right accomodations. I will look forward to meeting the two of you. I will do everything I can to make this a fun, very relaxed, and most importantly, a very informative seminar. Although I take teaching very serious, we will all have fun together the entire time. If anyone leaves with an unanswered question......it will be because it was never asked. I would like to again thank Howard for being so thoughtful as to invite me. |
