The Walters Art Museum is celebrating their decision to forego admission fees in October. One of the events will be a FREE concert on Friday, October 6 with the Campbell Bros. band. They will be performing two sets, tentatively scheduled for 8:00 and 10:00, but if that changes, I'll update this information.

The Walters Art Museum is located at 600 N Charles St in Baltimore, at the corner of Center St and Charles in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood. It is easy to get to from I-95 and I-83. It should be a great event and a wonderful way to attract a diverse and cultured audience to the museum. Did I mention that it is FREE? E-mail me if you have any other questions.

If you get a chance to go see The Cambell Brothers, go. They are the real deal. Holy Spirit inspired music that will move you. They are also some of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. They love other steel players.

What happened? I thought I’d see some Forumites at the Walters Art Museum on Friday, and even though I am preaching to the choir, you missed a terrific show and a rare opportunity to see them in this area. They are off to brief tours in Spain and to Hawaii in the coming months, so for those of you in those locales, keep an ear out.

It was a very special evening for me. I had been waiting to see them since a friend of mine, Dan Bindert (now a jazz host at WBEZ in Chicago), who had written a piece about them in the Rochester alternative paper and was a big booster of theirs, gave me their first CD years ago.

Not only are these guys the most gracious, friendly, humble, and immensely talented people you’d ever want to meet (I think Darick and I bonded), they are huge proponents of the steel guitar both pedal and otherwise, and engage the audience with it better than any other band I can think of. You have been steeled once you have seen them. But beyond that, they are about music, positive energy, the blues, deep roots, grace, rejoicing, the holy spirit, and any connotation you care to attach to it. I feel changed and uplifted after experiencing their music.

The band made a big impact on the audience, the majority of whom had no idea who they were. And a huge shout out to the vocalists, especially Ms. Katie Jackson, who hails from Baltimore. I hope their collective career expands and they can reach a broader, appreciative audience. They make such a positive statement with their music, which is in drastically short supply. I now feel part of the Campbell Brotherhood.
