Does anyone know what tuning Robert Randolph uses? Looking for use on an 8 string non-pedal and 10 string/pedal; I love his sound. JB |

Robert Randolph uses a variant of the Sacred Steel E7th tuning. I'm not sure exactly, but I think it's pretty close to this: PEDALS KNEE LEVERS E7 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 LKL LKV LKR RKL RKR -------------------------------------------------------------- F# E D G# A G E F F# D C# Eb C# B C# Bb G# A# A G E F F# E D Eb F B C# C# Bb G# A G E F# F# F --------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, J. and b0b, a good friend of mine is now Robert's steel tech. He sent me his current tuning which he says is on both of his 13 string Fessys. It's pretty much the one b0b posted, the 2nd string is now tuned to D# with no pulls, the third string G# is now lowered to G on pedal one, which also raises string 11 to A# along with the other two changes. The 13th string is a B pulled to C# on pedal 2,and lowered to Bb on LL. Pedal 7 now lowers strings 4 and 9 to D. Looks like Robert's been doing some experimenting...------------------ C'mon by and visit!- www.markvanallen.com My Bands: Sugarland Kate and the Retreads Kecia Garland Band Shane Bridges Band Dell Conner Blues Band

For whatever this is worth,Robert really doesn't appear to use his pedals and levers very much in his live performances. To be more specific,it looks like he does most scales and runs without pedals, then utilizes the pedals for quick chord changes when playing rhythm. Just my personal observations. ~~W.C.~~ | |
