Topic: Second pedal going flat on 6th string

I am having trouble with the B pedal on my Legrand III pulling the 6th string to A. I tune the pedal, and then it starts to go flat -- sometimes it won't do it for a while, sometimes right away after pedaling the B pedal. I have replaced the hex tuner, checked the rod connection to the bell crank, looked for any old string pieces, and changed the string. I can't figure out what the problem is -- any suggestions? Tighten the return spring a little. I suspect it's too loose. I don't know if you use a wound string on the 6th possition but if you do, the longer travel would put additional wear on the return spring.Return springs are located at the very bottom of your guitar's changer and can been seen when laying under the steel. The hold the lowering scisor finger to the end plate, but that finger may lift off at a raise pull if the spring is not holding it snuggly in place, resulting in a raise going flat. Make sure that the puller(Bell crank) is tight on the crossbar.....and/or make sure there is not a crack at the bottom of that puller....as sometimes those babies will crack and then break.
Make sure the rod is not binding/rubbing on another rod or puller....and is pulling in a straight line.

Thanks, Ricky. I checked the bellcrank and didn't see any cracks. I will follow the rod and just make sure it's not rubbing on anything. Thanks again! Boo |

Also Boo; as I'm thinking about it more.
There's another problem you can be getting into; if there is not enough pulling distance of that string. Meaning; your nylon tuner may be already engaging the finger slightly on either the raise section or lower section...>I would venture to say that you are lowering that string a whole tone eh?? ...as per why your string is getting flat after you try and tune the raise.
So in a nutshell....try this....> Back off the nylon tuner for the raise and back off the nylon tuner for the lower...and tune the string open to pitch...> Now push the pedal and try raising the pitch by the nylon tuner up to A....>now let off the pedal...and if it returns sharp....then you need more distance on the pedal stop or move the rod 1 hole further from the crossbar....>Now do the same with the lower> Engage the pedal for the raise....>then hit the knee lever for the lower...and tune that by the nylon tuner....then let off...and if the note is now flat at the open position then you need more distance for the knee lever to move..or out one hole on the bell crank...> and go at it again.
