You might try to contact Milt Myers, in Arroyo Grande. I don't know if this is still his number, (805) 489-9254. He's a great player. He used to teach, and I'm sure he'd be willing to help. |

Rich, Thanks for the response. I do know Milt and have been to his house several times. Unfortunatly, he has moved to the Central Valley outside of Bakersfield about four months ago. I hope it wasnt my sour notes and the thought of fixing them that drove him away. He is a great player and a nice guy. Milt was good friends with Wayne Nix of Santa Maria who I also know. He is a good C6th player and also very nice. Thanks Terry Hickey |

Milt and Brenda are having a home built in Tulare as she works for Wells Fargo in Visalia and yes, he's gone from the coast probably for good, which is bad for us. I miss our weekly jams at his home until he moved. |

I had to smile when I saw your message. When I started playing steel guitar in 1976 I lived in Arroyo Grande (having gone to High School there). About the only sources of information I had were Winnie Winston's book and Tom Bradshaws catalog. I eventually found a fellow named Paul Barfels that lived a few blocks from me. He was an excellent steel player, and while he was not a teacher as such, he certainly helped me out a lot in the beginning. I wonder if he still lives in the area? I left California in 1979, and haven't been back since, but I wish you good luck. Say hi to my good friend Dave Stamey for me.------------------ Gary Jones, KLVX - Trying to keep it straight amongst the Gilded Palaces of Sin |

Ben, You are right on all counts on Milt and SLO . I feel lucky to be able to make a living here. People are moving in by the truckload and the building of new homes is amazing. Good Luck Terry[This message was edited by Terry Hickey on 13 April 2004 at 03:00 PM.] |
