I bought this guitar from Cliff Shairrick of New Caney, Tx. I know that the cabinet, necks, and pickups are MSA. I called Maurice Anderson and he confirmed that it was born in Feb. of 1970 as a D-10 With 8 & 4. It now has 7 & 4, but the cross-rod for the 8th pedal is still there. Cliff cut down the cabinet (the only obvious givaway is the end piece of the rear skirt that had to be cut and moved over to make it sorta' look right) and added the keyless tuners. The tuners are stainless, I think.

It originally had the flat cross-bars. Cliff replaced those with square ones and made new fingers for the Pull/Release system (not sure if it was pull/release or an all-pull originally). I'm not sure about the pedals...might not be original.
The look of this guitar is really growing on me. The depth of the cabinet is accentuated by it being shorter than it was.
Plays good (I guess...I haven't played many guitars, and haven't owned a steel since the mid 70's). I also got a nice new case that was built for it.

Whatcha' think? Beauty or Beast? (I know...it's what I think that matters, but humor me). What do you think it might be worth? I ain't saying how much I paid, but I got it right......I think.

What a coincidence...I was looking at my S-10 MSA last night wondering what it would take to go keyless and shorten the body. I think yours looks great!

Gerald....I have never seen any other MSA undergo such an extensive transformation.

My most sincere congratulations to Cliff Shairrick for an exceptionally beautiful design and quality workmanship, and to you for being so fortunate to own a truly unique and one of a kind MSA.

Steve - I think it looks great. The tuners are very "industrial strength". And there really is something special about glossy black mica....especially with the off-white trim (it sorta' looks like corian, but I don't think they made it back then). Maybe the photos will be helpful if you decide to "bob" (not to be confused with "b0b") your cabinet.

Reese - Thanks for the kind words. I'll pass them along to Cliff. I'm sure he'll feel flattered. Thanks again for the birth records on the guitar.
