This belongs to a young man in his early twentys here at Alamo Music. His parents gave it to him as a birthday gift but he had no intrest in it. It has been is storage for a few years. I hope someone can tell us about this steel. Here is the link to the pictures. I added pictures of the knee lever at 2:46 CST.http://alamomusic.com/fender%20steel.htm ------------------ Gordon Borland MSA D10,NASHVILLE 400,SESSIONS 2000,PEAVEY ADDVERB,SOME WIRES AND A BATTERY.

Fender 400.. 8 string 4 pedals.. cable mechansim..No knees... Early model w/ "string breaker" bridge from what I can determine from the pics.. Most guys tuned these to D9 to avoid the string breakage problem... Later models [63 and up maybe??] had a revised changer that did not drag the strings, .. I believe it was closer to a modern changer system and helped the breakage.. VERY cool sounding steels... If you can play an 8 stringer with NO pedals.. LOTS of players made great music on these unique steel guitars... I imagine Jody or one of the other resident Fender guys will be able to elaborate further... bob |

This is a mid 1960's Fender 400. I can't tell from the pictures, but it looks like one knee lever was added? The 400 is an 8 string single neck with 4 foot pedals I believe. I've heard that the exact year can sometimes be determined by removing the tuning peg tray. The factory worker would put the maufacture date and their initials there. |

It's a refinished late 50s-early 60s 400. The original bridge has been replaced with a home made roller unit, the legs look like they're from a table, and the original pedal rods are missing..the "new" rods are drilled into a different place on the pedals....unfortunate. Looks like the culprit etched his personal info in the end, too....at least he was thorough. |

Thanks guys I knew you would have great information. The name etched in the end is Karl Moore in San Antonio. I did a search to see if he is a member or had a post about him but no results. I pluged it in and it works. I wonder if anyone is into restoring these old Fenders? Thank you again Bob, Fred and Brian. ------------------ Gordon Borland MSA D10,NASHVILLE 400,SESSIONS 2000,PEAVEY ADDVERB,SOME WIRES AND A BATTERY.

Thanks Randy. Some of the members wrote and told me about Karl and I did try to call him twice but did not get a return call. The young man that owns the steel has no intrest in it nor I but I just thought I would post anyway because you never know who might have an intrest is seeing it. ------------------ Gordon Borland MSA D10,NASHVILLE 400,SESSIONS 2000,PEAVEY ADDVERB,SOME WIRES AND A BATTERY.

Weird coincidence - I just saw someone in Chicago who was intersted in one of these, but he might need to up his price a little. The going rate on these has moved up a little lately. http://chicago.craigslist.org/msg/72643178.html

John This guy might be looking for an amp rather than a pedal steel. Look at this link. http://www.timeelect.com/6550a-ex.htm ------------------ Gordon Borland MSA D10,NASHVILLE 400,SESSIONS 2000,PEAVEY ADDVERB,SOME WIRES AND A BATTERY.

Gordon, Thanks for the cool link. I'm sure you're right about that. Guess I have a one-track mind these days. |

Gordon,I might be interested in your steel. Tell me more about it!!! I've been looking for a 400 to mess around with...since this one is already altered, I wouldn't have to worry about messing up a pretty guitar...this one's kinda nasty!!! Let me know if your student wants to sell.
