Has anyone heard about the steel called ''Star '' ? Thats the name if i remember it right . I'm told that it is one top notch guitar . I was told about it at Rick Troyers steel show . Also i would like to hear some news from David Jackson about the progress of the ''Jackson '' steel . Thanks in advance . Gary . |

there is a fella in Texas that makes
"lone star " steels but thats about all i know about them------------------

Calvin you are correct. Lone star steel in Salsado Texas. They do have a web site but it is very limitied. I saw a couple of his guitars but do not know enough about them to have an pro or con on them. Best of luck------------------

I played a couple of the "Star" guitars at the Dallas show. Really nicely built guitars but the ones I played needed a little bit of tweaking and I didn't want to do that to someone else's guitars. They build there own pick ups which I liked and yes I would consider buying a "Star" one day. If I remember correctly, one of the guys that build these guitars is also making parts for other guitars. It's a new guitar, I say give'em a chance to grow and expand and let's see how they're doing at next years Texas show. |

From what I understand, Star Precision is a machine shop in Trinadad, Texas that makes the parts for the Star steels as well as parts for other steel manufactures. Also, the well known steel cabinet builder, Mark Giles, is involved with these.Nice looking guitars!!! |

Yes, I believe Mark Giles, who makes bodies for Fessenden and others, and Albert Talley (who doesn't  ) make the Star guitar. |

I recieved pictures today from a steel guitar maker here in Florida, they look good but I do not believe he is going public, just for himself. His shop made me a little envious, it is as purty as his guitar, he has it all. ernie |

Gary, Dwight Cook and I build the Star steel guitar. Mark Giles builds the bodies and Star Machine Parts makes most of our parts. We think we have a good guitar, if you would like to call me I'm at 817-558-3481. I would be glad to visit with you about the Star steel guitars. Thanks Albert Talley |

Lone Star was at the Dallas show but since they didn't have an amp to try them out, I never got a chance to hear one. I thought they looked cool as hell but seemed a bit Rube Goldberg. |

The new Rains will be here with two dealers bringing a steel with them.Come and see it at the gospel steel here in INDY on May 5th and 6th.

Doug, actually there will be at least three Rains dealers at the Gospel show. I am a Rains dealer as is Erv and Fred. It is a great guitar with absolutely awesome tone.
I will be playing my new black "Spirit" model 8+9 on your show. |

Go to Bobbe Seymour's web-site and check out the new Rittenberry guitar. I think you will be suprised. This is a nice guitar. |

Yes, I'm a RAINS player/fan and even suggested we do the gospel "The Spirit" model. Gary and Bobby jumped on it and we have a super gospel Rains model...BUT, the STAR Steel that my buddy Albert Talley is building sounds and plays very good!! I played Albert's and was very impressed...so many great steels -- so little money! |

Bill, I want to thank you for coming up with the idea of the "Spirit" logo as an option on the Rains guitar. I knew that you were the one who suggested it and I appreciate that and I appreciate Bob going along with it. That is the first thing that attracted me to the Rains, but then when I heard the tone, I was hooked.

I have had a couple of Star guitars at my shop and they are very nice guitars. The design is well thought out and the machine work is terrific. Needless to say - that cabinetry by Mark Giles is also great. As they are a new company, there have been a few minor, easily correctable issues that have already been addressed. Watch for them to make a presence in the industry. |

I have a Star Steel. It is, with out doubt, the finest steel I have ever owned or played. Single coil pickups by Dwight Cook in Amarillo, TX. The best I have ever had on a guitar. Virtually 'zero' cabinet drop. Pedal Action, knee levers are like butter. Overall a very well crafted, precision instrument. You cannot go wrong with a Star Steel.

Crowbear . . . that mother-of-pearl Star on the front apron, the Star on the rear pad and the Stars on the fretboard should all give you a clue as to the brand of pedal steel in Jim W's pics above !
This one, along with a few others were on display at the STAR booth at the Dallas show -- and they were all beauties |

I visited Star Machine Parts this afternoon. As Albert stated, Star Machine makes a lot of the parts for his guitars.
Larry is an excellent machinist and does first class work.
I also had the oppurtunity to play one of the Star guitar's in Dallas and they play and sound very good.I didn't notice any hum in the single coil pickup's.Put all of that together with one of Mark Giles' cabinent's, and you have a very nice guitar. |

I played a Star guitar at the Dallas show. I really liked the tone. IMO the guitar needed some tweaking, but played well. I said something about the knee levers needing to be repositioned and one of the builders offered to do it right there, so it seems they will be very good to work with. They seemed very friendly also. |
