After tabbing several parts of this song for different folks; I put it all together for most of the song; just add however many verses or bridges to play it as the whole song. It is in the key of A; and it is a modern version of this classic; played on the C6th pedal steel.

Ricky, thanks.

Your generousity and willingness to share your considerable knowledge is very much appreciated. This is a great instrumental.

I have been working on it since John Steele posted his questions and you responded to him. John also answered some of my questions about main verse. Now I have it all in one place.

I hope we meet someday. Thanks again,

Bud

Hey Ricky, thanks.
As you know, I've been booting this tune around a bit for the last couple of weeks,
when I taught myself the first chorus, I figured it out like this:

1-------------------------------|
2-------------------------------|
3------------~~7(7)--7----------|
4--------------7(7)--7-----7----|
5--------------7(5)--7(5)--7(5)-|
6--------------7-----7-----7----|
7-------------------------------|
8-------------------------------|
9-------------------------------|
10--6(5)~~7(5)------------------|

I put the little ~ mark before the first chord to indicate mashing the pedal.
I wear 4 picks too, but do you think that sounds alright, or is it too "non-original"?

Hey John; it will work, but I rarely take my foot off the volume pedal to play the split between the 5th and 7th pedal; it is just too much motor skills for me(ha......
It is certainly the right notes as the way I tabbed it; but without moving the bar is the difference I suppose. I play it on the no-pedal steel; which is very original; but when I play it on the pedal steel; I do try and keep it sounding like there are no pedals enguageing; but that's just me. I like to play it on the pedal because of the bigger chords in the flat 7th position; with out the Suspending note of the 5th string; which is inharent on the no-pedal steel. But I really really like the original sounding instrumental when there are more pieces in the band; other than just me and Dale. Sounds good to me.

Ricky:

This is really good stuff. I play it on C6th like Pete Drake used to, but had never tried it on E9th. This will really add to the variety and sound on an extended instrumental.

Ricky:

I'm sorry - I feel stupid. This is on the C6th neck!!! I didn't read it thoroughly enough and also, pedals 5,6,7 are on the other neck.

Mark and Ricky. I talked to Herb Remmington about this song and he said he did it on a C#minor tuning. It can be done on E9th using the A pedal to get the C# note. With the A pedal down, tune the B (10th) string to a low E to get the bo-wa. He also did it in A. This way of playing it gets close to the orginal sound. Herb has this out in one of his course. I just want to sy to Ricky, you're doing a gteat thing for the steel guitar and players doing these tabs.
