I wish Gary Morse would consider tabbing this Dwight Yoakum song. This is a great honky tonk hard core song. It has inspired me to sit down behind my guitar. |

Jack said he'd like me to tab it, so here goes. Intro - key of A - "R" is half-tone raise, "L" is half tone lower, "LL" is full tone lower. If you don't have a full-tone lower, I tabbed an alternate ending that you can use with the "c" pedal. 1_________________________________________________________________________________ 2_________________________________________________________________________________ 3___12b___12b_~_12____12_~_10____10_______________________________________________ 4______________________________________7_~_7___7_______7_~_7____7_________________ 5___12a___12a_~_12____12_~_10____10____7_~_7a__7a______7_~_7a___7a________________ 6___12b___12b_~_12____12_~_10____10________________7b_____________________________ 7_________________________________________________________________________________ 8_________________________________________________________________________________ 9_________________________________________________________________________________ 10________________________________________________________________________________ 1_________________________________________________________________________________ 2_________________________________________________________________________________ 3_______________________________5__~_5b___5b___5b_~_5_____________________________ 4___10__~_10_~_10__~_10_~_9R____5L_~_5L___5L___5L_~_5L____________________________ 5___10a_~_10_~_10a_~_10_~_9_____5__~_5a___5a___5a_~_5_____________________________ 6_________________________________________________________________________________ 7_________________________________________________________________________________ 8_________________________________________________________________________________ 9_________________________________________________________________________________ 10________________________________________________________________________________

First solo- key of A - "R" is half-tone raise, "L" is half tone lower, "LL" is full tone lower. I haven't tried playing this yet since my steel is packed, so I won't get to check it out until the middle of the week. I especially want to try the open string part to be sure. 1_________________________________________________________________________________ 2_________________________________________________________________________________ 3_________________________________________________________________________________ 4________________________12___12_~_12____12___12____12_~_12____12___12____________ 5___________________12________12_~_12a___12a__12a___12_~_12a___12a__12a___________ 6____________12b__________________________________________________________________ 7________12_______________________________________________________________________ 8_10~12__________12_______________________________________________________________ 9_________________________________________________________________________________ 10________________________________________________________________________________

Jeff thanks for the help. I've already sit down and worked it out. Very simple I am almost embarrassed to ask for help. I had not even tried to play it I just figured it was more complicated. |

It is actually deceptively simple. There are several clever phrases that are not normally played. For example, playing the third and six strings in unison is a nice touch (I heard this done once before, on Colin Raye's song "Every Second, Every Minute). Also, of course, the drop from the 10th fret to the 9th using the 4th string 1/2 tone raise is an extension of the famous lick from "Together Again", but played after the bouncing "a" pedal on the 10th fret, was neat. And the open string harmony with the 12th fret was sweet. IMHO, this is a very clever piece of playing. This is the so-called Bakersfield sound with some original thinking and I wish I had that kind of ingeniousness to come up with these twists that GM did. I can understand why Dwight Yoakam likes him so much. As he did with the guitar player (I forget his name) who was doing some of the rock-a-billy stuff with him of "Little Sister" and "Guitars, Cadillacs, ...", he looks for players with a keen sense of these retro sounds mixed in with some modern original thinking, and GM really knows how to combine these elements together. |

Thanks sooo much Jeff! That "guitar player" is Pete Anderson who is also Dwight's producer and in no small way responsible for that retro sound. I love the Baratone Guitar licks he does that are answered by the steel, in the new album's first cut (sorry can't remember the name). ------------------ j0e[This message was edited by Joe Herchel on 15 December 2000 at 07:58 AM.] |
