I did this up for Archie Cox; and thought I would plop it up here for all to have. This is the Version I play on E9th pedal Steel; one time through.
The chords are above the sections and the dots(beats) are below each section.
(the L on 6th string is Lower whole tone)
(the "*" at end means to Chime the notes)
Have fun.....and it's really a beautiful song and we will have Me and Archie playing this on Video/Audio together on the "Twin Blue Darlin' Fulawka's"...but I'll of course be playing a Harmony to this Tab..."and I ain't tabbin' that out".....too difficult......ha...   .

Hey your more than welcome.
Now this is my own simple version....so it may not play like JH's version....ha....but this will get you through the song with a nice melody and some cool movements here and there..>>>..but wait till you hear the harmony part for this....yeeeeeeehhaaaaaaa.

Hey Great Pat and Paul...thanks....Oh man I actually have some other cool things that I do personally in that song....but I tabbed it the simple version mainly for Archie...and for the harmony parts.
Paul....actually I'm "NOT" going to tab the Lloyd Green masterpiece he played on "You don't have very far to go".
....here's why>
There is no way to capture the expression Lloyd plays with through the Measures of time. Lloyd like Jimmy Day...play so many intriquate phrasings that actually hit inbetween the beats.....and it is extreamly hard to tab that to capture it....and if I can't capture it...I don't consider it justice to the person to tab their stuff.
Also; Lloyd slants quite a bit....and uses the 4th string raise "C" pedal as he's lowering the 8th string....and unless someone is set up like Lloyd...they can't capture those movements.....and I don't want to tab it other than the exact way he plays....and it would be unlike the way anyone has ever played there E9th tuning...if I was to tab it.
So as you can see; I'm passing on trying to do this........You just cannot capture what Lloyd Plays> in Tablature.
Sorry...but I'm just not going to Tab Lloyd Green or Jimmy Day anymore....out of respect for their style...."which cannot be captured in Tablature".

Ricky: What you're saying makes very good playing sense and while I will miss your effort I can surely appreciate your reasoning and logic on the matter. Actually, you've made a very good testimonial for both these giants and their interpetation of our music. Cool Paul and absolutely agree on trying to emmulate our heros.
I listen to Lloyd Green and Jimmy Day and Weldon Myrick Play every day of my life. There is not a day that goes by where I don't listen to one of them on some of my favorite music. I mainly turn on some music as I drive to a gig each day..and let their inspiration effect my soul. I wear my influences on my shoulder everytime I play; as I constantly think...."what would Lloyd play here" ....."how would Jimmy day phrase this"...."how can I sound more like Lloyd".......so that's how I listen to music and we played "you don't have very far to go" last night...and I didn't play the intro just like Lloyd did....but he certainly had a huge affect on me when I did play it.....
Sometimes Listening is alot better than reading......

P.S. An Evening of E9th with Tommy White and Lloyd Green is on in the background right now as I type this at 4:30(just got home from a gig)...as it is on every night as I go to sleep... |

Well; Ricky !! There's another of those " I thought I was the only one who did that...."
I remember before they had car cassette players, I bought a kit from Heathkit and built my own just so I could do what you are doing. And it works too.... Hey Peter; as of yet there is not a Mp3 version.....as I don't know how to record on a computer....and don't have any recording devices at all at the house.
But as stated above....we will have a video/audio of me and Archie playing this version....as soon as we get together for that.
I belive Graham Reid is making a backing track to this in BIAB....and we'll put that on in the back ground as we video the two "Blue DArlin" Fulawka's playing this Song in Harmony.

Hey Ricky, I tried to play it the way you tabbed it but couldnīt do it exactly that way because my guitar does not have the 6th string lower. "The Waltz You Saved For Me" is one of my favorite tunes and I always play it the way I first heard it, which is Buddy Charletonīs version with the Texas Troubadours. Just like Lloyd Green is your hero, Charleton is one of mine. His version uses only the A and B pedals and the 8th string lower. If anybody here is interested at all, I will try and tab it, however I canīt guarantee that itīs 100% accurate.

Hey Joe; here are some alternate ways to play "MY" version; if you don't lower your 6th string a whole tone, which is the way I played it on my ShoBud....but the Fulawka has the 6th lower a whole....so that's why the difference.
Oh and this is my own version....I've never heard Lloyd play it...is it like this??
Anyway; I think you'll be delighted with the new way alternative.

Yes Graham "It passes Muster".....you did a great job on that back up track....and sounds like a Texas Band backin' the song up.

Thanks Ricky. This is playable, but still seems a little odd to me compared to the version I know... Iīm really looking forward to hearing you and Archie play the tune, then it probably will be clearer. Ricky I sent you a tape of Lloyd playing the Waltz about 18 months ago. You told me you were too busy to Tab it and referred me to Gary Walker who has a talk tape of the Waltz. Look around your tapes I'm positive
you'll find it. Lloyd never released the Waltz commercially |

WEll I did loose a bunch of stuff in the Divorce......Geez I hope my Ex-wife is diggin' it.....Oh well thanks anyway.
I've heard 15 different versions of this song....but that's the way I play it.
I can play it 15 different ways...but that's the way I play it.

Ricky-Nice job! I believe that Wayne King the "Waltz king" wrote "the waltze you saved for me".We used to play that 50 years ago with full chords. Very beautiful. Here is a couple more you can tab. "Fascination", "Melody of Love", "Down the River of Golden Dreams".

I know La Golindrina.......do you know that one??? It's a beautiful Waltz song...done by either Billy Bowman or Gene Crownover from the Bob Wills Texas Playboys....can't remember which one...I think it was Crownover; heck maybe both did it...I'll have to find my tapes.
Anyway...I was thinkin' about tabbin' that one.....as I do know it.

The versions I'm most familiar with are Bud Isaacs and Jerry Byrd, although I have heard several others since! All are well done versions! It's one of the first tunes that I learned on the pedal steel back around '53 or '54. I never had the tab for it. Only picked it up off the Isaacs recording! I still have a cracked copy of the 78rpm in my collection somewhere! "Big John" |

Yeah, Ricky, I know Logolondrina,"The swallow". A very pretty tune and plays real well on the steel guitar. It would be a good tune to Tab. It lays good for the E9 tuning.I'm sure there is a lot of appreciation of your doing the tabs and sharing your experiences. Tom Bradshaw made a tape of it in around 1968, with Reece on Bass! Paul I have/had a picture of Gene playing somewhere....and I've looked for it and no luck...as I did loose lots of stuff when I divorced...Oh well....I'll look some more.
It's a pic of him playing a festival outside with Bob Wills and Gene "YES" was a large man.....as both legs were on the outside of his Fender steel as he was sitting and playing.
What a beautiful player he was.

Sorry Peter; I still haven't had the time to get over to Archie's house and video/audio tape us doing this song yet.
I teach Golf from 7:00am to 11 or 12noon. Then home to work on the guitars I have laying on the floor....then a two hour nap...then off to play a gig every night of the week(that's 7 nights)and back home around 2 or 3am....then do it all over again...each day.
So you can see where the problem is
