i'm selling my 1947 gibson br-4 lap steel, because i'm going to consentrate on 8-string c6 lap steel. it's kinda beat up finish-wise, but it plays and sounds great. it has replacement open back chrome grover tuners, but is otherwise all original. no case. $400 plus shipping. thanks, john |

well, i've had this steel listed for over three weeks, and haven't had any responces. i could use a little (friendly) feed back on why there's no interest. i bought it from a reputable dealer for $400. it's a great sounding guitar. any input would be appreciated. thanks, john |

Hi John, I think the problem is $400. seems high based on your description. If I'm not mistaken a BR-9 only brings $200. or so, and most don't view the 4 as any different sounding, although it was around first and more traditional. If it were close to mint you'd get more than your asking price. That's my take on it. Correct me if I'm off base buddy. |

loni- thanks for the reply. i usually look at completed auctions on ebay to get an idea of what something is "worth", although stuff is all over the map there, too. i just looked, and br-9's have sold anywhere from $250. up to $400. when i bought this one, i saw two others that had sold in the same price range. i bought this one from a reputable dealer, and i was kinda disappointed that he didn't mention the changed tuners. i could have sent it back, but it really is a cool old guitar, and it sounds great. i might be overstating the "beat-up" part of my description, but i wouldn't want someone to buy something from me and not feel good about the deal. anyway, i guess it won't be the end of the world if i never sell it, even though i do need the money, 'cause it really a sweet little guitar. i just haven't touched it since i got that 8-string from you. thanks, john |

yeah, they are quite different. i would think that the br-4 would be more valuable than the br-9, because the br-4 was only made one year. i like the way it looks more than the br-9, but my taste usually runs opposite of most people's john |
