So I have this MSA Classic s-10 3/4 that I haven't played in awhile. I guess it's been awhile!
When did they stop making MSA's?
Boy, am I out of the loop.

You all are great! Thanks for your help.
Reece says my guitar is a walnut single 10 and it left the factory with 3 pedals and 4 knee levers. It was built on April 22nd 1977.

Dale....I closed the doors at MSA in 1984, so Bill is exactly correct.

If you need any help with your MSA, or if you would care to know who the original owner was, post the serial number and I will try to help you. I of course don't have all MSA records, but I do have most.

Thank you for being an MSA owner.

Maurice,
I also have a black MSA Classic D-10 (that I bought new), but don't know exactly what year. Would like to know the year if available from your records. I've looked over the guitar, where does one find the serial number?

Leonard...thank you so much for the very kind words. It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to participate on the forum and meet so many nice people.

Your guitar was built on May 21st 1973 and it originally went to Caruthers Music. I show it to be a black double 10, and it left the factory with 8 pedals and 2 knee levers.

Gary....You will find the serial number on the bottom of the guitar close to the return springs. Some were stamped on the endplate nearby. Get the serial number and I will try to help you with the history.

Patrick....I want you, as well as Leonard, Gary, and everyone else who owns or has ever owned an MSA, to know how much I appreciate your continued interest in MSA and it's history, and sincerely thank you for helping MSA over the years.

I presently own 2 MSA U-12. Have owned 4 of them since I started playing them in 1973. They are still great guitars. Thanks Reece.

I would love to know its history and year. Incidently, thanks for the advice Reece, it plays like a dream now. Also thanks to Randy Reimer who did a great job on the spare parts (at very reasonable price)

Hi Reece, I also would like to know the history of my MSA, S-10. I call it purple, not sure if that is what the factory called it, and it is serial number 1C5317. It is a great sounding guitar and I am proud to be an MSA owner.

Thanks, Ron

Ron,

I'm glad to answer your question. My records indicate your MSA to be a single neck 10 string, and it left the factory with 3 pedals and 4 knee levers.

It was born on Sept. 4th 1976 and it originally went to Bill Payne Music in Florida. My records show it to be a custom grape color.

I just got back from a gathering of West Coast pickers down in San Diego hosted by Jim Palanscar and John McClung was there pickin his D-12 MSA.Let me tell ya that he put a stop to all the talk that MSAs have no tone. His guitar sounds as sweet, bright and fat as any Sho-Bud,Emmons or what have you.Of course he plays it great too.

Could please give me any history on my D10
which has just had a 10,000 mile trip
from Virginia to Australia.
I think the case is original, black with three lifting handles.Had footprints on case
when it arrived so it is strong.
It survived the trip unscathed and looks and sounds great.I believe you sold this in about
1995.Ser # 2C4893.
Thanks
Geoff

Matt....I trust you received the information from me concerning your MSA SS double 10.

Michael....I most sincerely want to thank you for the compliments concerning the MSA sound at the show last weekend.

George...Sorry someone got away with your MSA in 1984, but hopefully you have another MSA in your future.

Geoff...I show your guitar to be a natural maple color single neck SS on a double neck frame. It was built on Sept. 6th 1975, left the factory with 8 & 5, and the original owner was Bobbe Seymour.

Again, thank each of you for your support of MSA, and I'll always be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks much in advance

Hi Jim,

I'm delighted to hear from you, and honored you or anyone else would be proud enough of your MSA's to care about it's history.

The serial number on your guitar is actually 2C-3378. The "C" was the designation for Classic. Your guitar was born on Sept. 12th 1974, and I show it to be white tidewood with 8 pedals and 4 knee levers. It was shipped to our distributor in Chicago and I have no record of where it went from there.

I recently received a neck for my Universal guitar which I can honestly say is the most stunningly beautiful neck I have ever seen on a steel guitar.

Also I have never seen anything enhance the looks of a steel as much in my life. I consider it to be a work of art, as does virtually everyone who has seen it.

I will be posting more about the neck and those responsible for the incredible work in the near future. We all remember the old adage, "a picture is worth a thousand words"!

Reece,
Since everyone is asking MSA questions, I've got one. I'm traveling through Georgia right now and I saw an MSA Sidekick at a music store for sale at a very good price. I understand there was a Sidekick and a Red Baron made. This one is made of what looks like black plastic and has 3 pedals and 1 knee lever. What's the difference between the two models and can more knee levers be added easily to this one? Thanks in advance for any information or anyone else's input.

Reece,
I bought My D10 8/4 Burgandy Classic in 1981 (Fall) off consighnment in Ogden,Utah. The person that originally had it didn't have much luck and put it to sell about 6 months after he got it..It is 2c5543. I still have it. I've added another floor and a knee vertical. Had to replace one tunning key which I recently got from Don Inglis in Indianappolis. My baby is geting very worn and is need of a tune up and maybee new finish. Don said that he could do it..and I've got a few other options..But thanks Reece for giving birth to such a fine instrument.. Almost 20 years...and still sounding good..Do you have any old parts lying around????

Bob,

MSA records show your guitar, serial number 2C5543 to be a walnut double 10, and it left the factory with 8 pedals and 4 knee levers.
It's original destination was "Guitar City Music". It was manufactured on March 16th 1977.

MSA's existence over 22 years is collectively attributed to many people who had pride and gave their very best. I have always considered myself fortunate to have been associated with so many wonderful individuals for so long.

As I'm sure you know, refinishing your guitar is a very big undertaking. Also keep in mind you will have to replace most esthetics because there is no longer any decals and etc. available.

Sorry to say I don't have MSA parts, but there are those who offer them, and they do great work at a reasonable price. If you need their address just post it, and I will respond to you personally.

Sorry to see MSA go but good to see Reece
eventually come out of it all on top.
Wish I had one of those bags of parts.

Reece....I have 2C256 which I bought new in New Orleans but I don't remember the exact year. Possibly 1973. I have never considered selling it or getting another guitar. It's sort of like buying a Rolls Royce that never wears out and believe me it still works every weekend and then some. I remember that I had the only MSA in New Orleans at that time and every steel player from miles around came to wherever I was playing just for a chance to play it.

Quesney.. I found where your guitar was originally sent to CMI in Chicago who was our distributor at the time, however there was no date of manufacture listed. You have to be one of, if not the longest supporters of MSA, for which I most sincerely thank you.

Jeremy..I show your guitar to be a walnut double 10 which left the factory with 8 pedals and 4 knee levers. The date of birth was May 22nd 1977, and it originally went to a man named Tommy Key.

Dave..Your guitar originally went to Tom Bradshaw at PSGP in Calif. I show it to be a single 12 which left the factory with 8 pedals and 5 knee levers. The date of manufacture was Feb.2nd 1978.

I appreciate greatly the sense of pride each of you have displayed in your MSA. I can assure you, everyone who ever worked with MSA had the same sense of pride in every guitar we made.
