My Sho-Bud measures 29" from floor to the top of the E9th body, My Carter meaures 28" to the top of the E9th body. Just curious, is there a typical standard height or is it anything goes? I know you can adjust the pedal rod lengths slightly and you can adjust the pedal rack legs as well. Any thoughts on this or am I out on my own planet here ?I somehow think my Sho-Bud is sitting a tad tall ( at least for me ) . TP

Well after minimum deliberation with myself I answered my own question about my Sho-Bud height .The Pedal Rods are an inch longer than the Pedal Rods on my Carter. This 'Splains it Lucy..( keep in mind I have only had the Carter about a week and a half and the Sho-Bud about a month ) But I am curious about heights of other guitars and lengths of Pedal Rods. I am thinking the standard low height may be around 28" as my Carter is sitting at that height now. The Rods on my Carter are approx 25 1/2 inches with small adjustment either way. TP

Tony, I found that differant builders have differant heights of the body of their guitars as well as leg lengths. Your own height makes a differance. I measured the distance from a hard surface floor (no carpet)[mine is 29½] to the top of the strings on my guitar. When I bought my Willy, my Carter is perfect for me so I sent Bill Rudolph the measurements and he cut the legs and rods to make them the same height by calculating the body height of the Willy which is higher than a Carter. I hope this helps. ------------------ SUAS U' PHIOB Geo

Funny, but it seems that pac-a-seats come in standard heights, which seems kinda weird to me. Also, it's the knee levers that make a big difference to me. The levers on my '66 Emmons are ~1/2 inch shorter than on my Franklin, and ~1 full inch shorter than my Fessy. It always takes a little getting used to on the Emmons, and modifying table height doesn't help much....

I would think that the critical measurement would be from the floor to the bottom of the guitar. Measuring to the top of the neck or strings could vary even though the distance from the bottom of the guitar to the floor are equal. I believe Carter has a lower neck insert as opposed to Sho~Bud, Emmons, etc.

Yes Richard, that is important. My Carter has lots of leg room, but the Willy is snug. But........The most comfortable playing position for me is that the top of each guitar is the same height. I can live with the floor to bottom of both guitars being differant, but I prefer to sit down and have the same "feel" for my forearms and hands, my legs arn't that fussy.------------------ SUAS U' PHIOB Geo

Most guitar makers use legs from the same manufacturer so they are all the same length. Of course other lengths available as well for taller or shorter players. Other builders that I know of that make their own legs make them the same length. The thickness of the body, however varies a lot from builder to builder, and is mostly determined by the length of their changer fingers. This is the major factor in what makes "standard height" guitars different heights.

After reading the reply's I wnet back and re-examined the height of my Sho-Bud as compared to the Carter. I would now agree that measuring from the floor to the bottom of the guitar body would be the most appropriate. My Carter measures 25 3/4 inches floor to body and the Sho-Bud measures just a tad over 26 " floor to body. My previous comparison of pedal rod lengths would not be accurate as the Sho-Bud rods connect high up on the rack while the Carter rods connect at a much lower point. It does appear that my Sho-Bud legs and rods may have been modified for a taller player so I suppose I will un-modify it for me, an average regular little guy 5'8". I'll do it tomorrow, or maybe the next day, or well..soon...I'll try to do it next week.. great reply's guys..thanks TP

Tony I have a fessy and it is standard size and I'm 5 foot 5 1/2 inches tall and I have no problem with pedals or Knee levers. Maybe your sitting to far away from the Steel. If not I think you should think about a nice Fessenden Steel. Sam White

George, I am just the opposite. I can live with the top of the guitar being a little different in height, but I need to feel comfortable under the guitar. If the bottom is too high, I don't feel like I am part of the instrument, which is important to me. Also, it can't be too low either. That makes me feel like I am trying to wear size 36 pants an my 38 waiste. I would actually like my Carter to be 1/2 inch higher so I could angle my vertical levers down more.------------------ Carter D10 9p/10k Richard Sinkler
