Author | Topic: McGraw/Chesney make bail? |

![]() I'd sure like hear this whole story- This morning (per CNN) Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw made bail after being arrested last night in Buffalo for assault and creating a disturbance. Apparently Chesney somehow got to a policeman's horse and rode away on it, resulting in a chase that ended with him being caught and dragged off the horse by several deputies. McGraw and most of his entourage was arrested for allegedly assaulting the deputies! Sounds like one of my college exploits, back when I used to hang with Jack Daniels real regular. I can't wait to hear what's behind all this. I wonder if somehow this is all Smiley's fault? JOhn ------------------ [This message was edited by JB Arnold on 04 June 2000 at 11:03 AM.] |

![]() Here's the AP story: BUFFALO, New York (AP) -- Country music singers Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw were arrested after Chesney rode away with a Mounted Reserve deputy's horse and McGraw attacked deputies who tried to corral him, the sheriff's office said. Chesney had asked to sit on the horse outside the Ralph Wilson Stadium. The daughter of the deputy who owned the horse gave him permission to do so. Chesney, 32, mounted the horse and rode off Saturday night, according to a statement from the Erie County Sheriff's Office. Deputies patrolling the stadium parking lot ordered him to stop. When Chesney ignored the orders, the deputies rode after him and pulled him off the horse, the statement said. The deputies then were attacked by McGraw, 33, and members of his entourage, according to the statement, which did not elaborate. Chesney of Nashville, Tennessee, was charged with disorderly conduct and was released on $100 bail. McGraw of Brentwood, Tennessee, was charged with second-degree assault, obstructing governmental administration, menacing and resisting arrest. He was released on $2,500 bail. One of McGraw's employees, Mark Russo, 44, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was charged with obstructing governmental administration, harassment, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was released on $500 bail. McGraw is married to country singer Faith Hill. He has had 14 No. 1 singles, including "Indian Outlaw" and "Don't Take the Girl." He won the top male vocalist prize at the Academy of Country Music Awards in May.

![]() I kinda wonder how George likes having something like that attached to his good clean name. they acted like the rock aned rollers they really are. I take that back even the rock bands have more sence then that hell even they headbangers got more brains then Mcgraw and all his crew got to be proud to work with that bunch and Mcgraw wanting to be the one that the country fans look up to BULL S---- |

![]() He's talking about George Strait. It's his tour they're on. But I agree-If you're going to condemn these guys for this, then you've got to go against George Jones, The Hag, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Jerry Jeff, Willie Nelson, and a whole host of others who have tangled with the law, in most cases way more than once, and for something other than a joyride on a horse. You can't have it both ways-these guys are no better or no worse than the old timers. Just because you don't like their music doesn't make them criminals and the other guys saints. I find it rather amusing-and I'm sure there's another side to the story. John ------------------ |

![]() There's a difference between doing stupid things when you're young (guilty!) and attacking police officers. Did the Hag, Cash. et al do that? I don't know, I'm asking. |

![]() I do believe riding off on some one else's horses is against the law and when he was told to stop and didn't then it became stealing and he should have been charged with with grand larceny. I do believe fighting with the law is against the law of course maybe everyone don't see it that way I guess some would say the boys were having a little fun well havin a little fun got Paycheck 5 years and according to the news Mcgraw is facing 5 to 7 years for felony assult that aint what I want my grand kids looking up to. Me liking or disliking there music has nothing to do with it they broke the law now they must face the music. And no I do not believe that any singer country or other wise should get away with this kind of crap. Nor football players nor any other sport figure if you break the law you pay [This message was edited by B Cole on 04 June 2000 at 07:38 PM.] |

![]() I guarantee it went something like this-Chesney had permission to get on the horse from the deputy's daughter. He rides away for some unexplained reason and couldn't hear the deputies calling him. McGraw and crew see the deputies chase him down and think maybe they're a bit rougher than need be when they yank him off the horse. The deputies are plain clothes I'll bet, and McGraw and gang try to pull them off Chesney. Both sides will scream at each other, it'll get pled down to something that nets a healthy fine and community service. Sounds like Kenny & Tim will be doing a benefit up there later this year. I'm not condoning their behaviour. Mine was much worse, more than once, and I got kicked around by some cops more than once. After a couple (hundred) drinks, you don't care who you're swinging at. The bail numbers tell me it wasn't much of a fracas. If there was a real assault, they'd all still be in the can, or the bail would be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Hell, my bail was over 10 grand once, and that was an uneventful night. I would lay odds that most of the names above have at least wrestled a cop-that's usually under the heading of drunk and disorderly or resisting arrest(That's usually how one winds up with bruises.) Walker and Nelson for sure. The Nashville establishment let a lot of that go by the boards for the bigger stars ("Aw, he was just blowin' off a little steam") until it became politically incorrect to do so. McGraw's going to have fun explaining all this to the wife-who I'm sure is just thrilled. Looks like that joint tour coming up will be getting here just in time! And yeah, I'll bet George Strait's not all that happy about it either. I imagine they'll be taking a trip out to his woodshed soon. John ------------------ |

![]() Hey J.B. You got it,pal. It WAS my fault. Hell,I'll take the blame. I need all the publicity I can get. I remember when Tim used to come into Skull's "Rainbow Room",in Printer's Alley. We got him up to sing a few. Back then,he was just known as,"Tug's kid". ------------------ |

![]() JB's right. It will all blow over once the media hullabaloo is over with. I suggest that the police not provide backstage security for Kenny and Tim for the next couple of gigs. That should bring ‘em around. Drunk as I’ve been, I would never have struck a police officer. But you’re right that a few belts of false courage and some idiots are ready to take on the world. That would certainly apply to old No Show Jones. Sounds like just another case of “too much fun”. |

![]() Yep had a lot of drunken partys though never fough with the cops. Just read where Ray Price had a little party ot there in Texas with some smokin dope and they Arrested him too but I guess he didn't fight he was probley just mellow and offered to share. Glad it wasn't the Buffalo cops they shoot first and ask questions later. Have a good day [This message was edited by B Cole on 05 June 2000 at 07:08 AM.] |

![]() Come to think of it, that this story is big news actually speaks well of our country brethren. This sort of thing is much more commonplace in other musical genres; stuff like this doesn't surprise anyone, they expect it. ------------------ |

![]() McGraw accepted the National Fatherhood Initiative’s "Father of the Year" award two days before his arrest, and was quoted as having said he wanted to set a good example as a parent. Somehow resisting arrest and second-degree assault doesn't doesn't quite fill the bill. |
