This morning (per CNN) Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw made bail after being arrested last night in Buffalo for assault and creating a disturbance. Apparently Chesney somehow got to a policeman's horse and rode away on it, resulting in a chase that ended with him being caught and dragged off the horse by several deputies. McGraw and most of his entourage was arrested for allegedly assaulting the deputies!

Sounds like one of my college exploits, back when I used to hang with Jack Daniels real regular.

I can't wait to hear what's behind all this. I wonder if somehow this is all Smiley's fault?

BUFFALO, New York (AP) -- Country music singers Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw were arrested after Chesney rode away with a Mounted Reserve deputy's horse and McGraw attacked deputies who tried to corral him, the sheriff's office said.

Chesney had asked to sit on the horse outside the Ralph Wilson Stadium. The daughter of the deputy who owned the horse gave him permission to do so.

Chesney, 32, mounted the horse and rode off Saturday night, according to a statement from the Erie County Sheriff's Office. Deputies patrolling the stadium parking lot ordered him to stop.

When Chesney ignored the orders, the deputies rode after him and pulled him off the horse, the statement said. The deputies then were attacked by McGraw, 33, and members of his entourage, according to the statement, which did not elaborate.

Chesney of Nashville, Tennessee, was charged with disorderly conduct and was released on $100 bail.

McGraw of Brentwood, Tennessee, was charged with second-degree assault, obstructing governmental administration, menacing and resisting arrest. He was released on $2,500 bail.

One of McGraw's employees, Mark Russo, 44, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was charged with obstructing governmental administration, harassment, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was released on $500 bail.

McGraw is married to country singer Faith Hill. He has had 14 No. 1 singles, including "Indian Outlaw" and "Don't Take the Girl." He won the top male vocalist prize at the Academy of Country Music Awards in May.

Sound like a major brouhaha!

If you are talking about George Jones you gotta get out more fella !

But I agree-If you're going to condemn these guys for this, then you've got to go against George Jones, The Hag, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Jerry Jeff, Willie Nelson, and a whole host of others who have tangled with the law, in most cases way more than once, and for something other than a joyride on a horse.

You can't have it both ways-these guys are no better or no worse than the old timers. Just because you don't like their music doesn't make them criminals and the other guys saints.

I find it rather amusing-and I'm sure there's another side to the story.

I'm not condoning their behaviour. Mine was much worse, more than once, and I got kicked around by some cops more than once. After a couple (hundred) drinks, you don't care who you're swinging at. The bail numbers tell me it wasn't much of a fracas. If there was a real assault, they'd all still be in the can, or the bail would be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Hell, my bail was over 10 grand once, and that was an uneventful night.

I would lay odds that most of the names above have at least wrestled a cop-that's usually under the heading of drunk and disorderly or resisting arrest(That's usually how one winds up with bruises.) Walker and Nelson for sure. The Nashville establishment let a lot of that go by the boards for the bigger stars ("Aw, he was just blowin' off a little steam") until it became politically incorrect to do so.

McGraw's going to have fun explaining all this to the wife-who I'm sure is just thrilled. Looks like that joint tour coming up will be getting here just in time!

And yeah, I'll bet George Strait's not all that happy about it either. I imagine they'll be taking a trip out to his woodshed soon.

Drunk as I’ve been, I would never have struck a police officer. But you’re right that a few belts of false courage and some idiots are ready to take on the world. That would certainly apply to old No Show Jones.
