I was down in Los Angeles last night, and wound up tuning in the FM station operated at Cal State University in Northridge.
The content was a "Jazz Show", but the "Jazz" music broadcast during the show was very diversified. Right after tuning in the show, they played the tune "Adventures in Paradise", as recorded by Jerry.
I had never heard any of his "Island style" records, but I knew that he played it over there.
The tune absolutely floored me. It was "luscious" music to my ears, and not at all what I had (ignorantly) expected "Hawaiian Music to be like. Very impressive.

Right On Rich,

I have that recording and play it often. I play it on the C6th neck on my Fender 8 string also. That Hawaiian tune is absolutely exquisite, but remember, the steel guitar is in the hands of Mr. Jerry Byrd.

Marty Robbins did two Hawaiian albums with Jerry Byrd that are just incredible. There are a lot of songs on them that were written by Robbins/Byrd - I assume that Marty wrote the lyrics and Jerry wrote the music. Every song has a gorgeous steel solo in it.
