Author | Topic: I found a GREAT guitar maker |

![]() Let me begin by saying that I don't work for this company and have no financial stake in their success. The company in question makes absolutely fantastic guitars at very reasonable prices. Their name is ASLIN DANE. They are based out of upstate New York. (The guitars are made in Korea). Last year I bought their version of a 335-style thin semi-hollow body. This year I bought their equivalent of a Les Paul. IMHO, both guitars are ever bit as good as Gibsons. I have two Gretsch Country Gents. I also have a friend who plays jazz piano. The guitar player in his band is a rocker turned jazz player who only had a strat, so when the band went to record a CD, I offered to let the guy use one of my Gretsches. He tried them both and then tried out the Aslin Dane 335 copy, and chose that one. He now has the company's version of an ES 175, and is totally thrilled with it. Check out the user reviews of their guitars at Harmony central. http://www.harmony-central.com/User_Reviews/ If any of you are looking for an inexpensive, but high quality guitar, look no further. I'm totally sold on these guitars. I have around 20 guitars. Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, Music Man, etc. My 2 Aslin Dane guitars are among the best in my collection. ![]() Mike this is a bit off the subject but I couldn't help noticing that you are a Gretsch CG owner, OK two of them. I am the original owner of a 1960 CG and a 1989 Gibson CA CG and Chet signed them both at the CAAS convention in 1994 and I treasure them both and hope to sell them both as a set someday. I haven't heard of the new builder that you are referring to but I know your reputation and have to believe they are a quality axe to be investigated, Thanks, Gary |

![]() Mike: Went to the site. I like the look of the jazz guitars. Without bothering them, how's the price range? |

![]() Gary, you hang on to that '60 CG. Some day you'll be able to trade it for a mansion. And get some change back. The reviews on the Harmony Central web site I posted earlier are not puff pieces by the companies. They are submissions from folks like us. Pickers who want to write about their toys. If you look hard, you'll see some stuff I wrote. Check them out. Ken, the guitars list for around $5-700. Realistically you can buy them for around $400. The company's web site is http://www.aslindane.com/home.htm [This message was edited by Mike Perlowin on 04 March 2001 at 07:50 PM.] |

![]() There are several guitar brands, made in Korea, that seem to be improving the quality. I just bought a "Montana" accoustic electric about a week ago. It is made in Korea and imported by a company that is owned by Paragon Music in Tampa, Fl. The guitar is a cutaway dreadnaugh style with rosewood sides and back, randelmann spruce top and has made in USA Sperzel tuning keys. All the inlay work (quite a bit) is all first class as is the wood finish of the internal braces. It has bone nut and bridge and a 5 band EQ. I would compare it to the $1500 class US guitars that I tried. The guitar listed for $1065 but I was able to get it for half the list with case, only because the music store is also the importer. This particular model is one of a limited production of 50 guitars. I looked at and played a lot of $500 - $700 class acoustics and nothing compared to this brand in qualtity and sound. |

![]() I want to thank Mike for starting this thread last March. Based on his review and also speaking to one of the owners I bought an Aslin Dane 335-style thin semi-hollow body guitar 9 months ago. http://www.aslindane.com/TheJazz.htm It is a fantastic guitar and an amazing value. The company is great to work with. So again, thanks Mike! David |

![]() ..just don't try to look at their web-site..the first time I tried it knocked me off the internet...I was stupid enough to try it again, and it locked me up so I had to reboot.. |

![]() Pat, I just checked and both web site links work fine for me. That said there are some sites that cause problems for me and others don't encounter any so go figure. David |

![]() I've got a Fender/Guild DeArmond M75T that I bought from Musician's Friend a couple years ago just for the heck of it. It's made in Korea, supposedly list-priced for about $875, I bought it as a closeout for $350. I've also got a blond Gibson ES-175 with an absolutely ridiculous list price, and I think the workmanship on that little DeArmond is every bit as good as the Gibson, sorry to say. Also a Korean-made Washburn J9VGO that I bought from Will Ray, and likewise excellent workmanship. They may not have the mystique and vibe of an old Gibson, Gretsch or Fender but ya gotta admit they're making great guitars for the money. When Ibanez first came out with their "lawsuit" models in the mid-to-late '70's, a friend brought one out to my gig and I tried it, it was one of those scroll-head Les Pauls. I liked it but at the time didn't consider anything imported to be a "real" instrument. Times change! ![]() David, I'm glad, but not at all surprised, that you like the guitar. Counting yourself, I now know 4 people who bought one of their guitars on my recommendation, and every one of them is equally entheusiastic about them. I think my 335 copy is actually a better guitar than some Gibson's I've played. I think every guitar player who needs a professional quality instrument but doesn't want to spend the big bucks needed for a major brand name, or whose guitars have become so valuable that they don't want to take them out to a gig or on the road, should investigate what this company is doing. |
