My daughter is getting married in June and my band has been asked to provide the music. Does anyone have some favorite songs that they've found that work well for this blessed occasion? Thanks in advance.

I once played all the music for a friend's wedding, including "Here Comes the Bride". He asked for, and I learned, "The Hawaiian Wedding Song". Unfortunately, he killed himself a few months later. Hope it wasn't my music!

Usually the bride and groom have a tune that they have picked out for their first dance. Off the top of my head I can think of a few.

Look at Us- Vince Gill
Mind yer own Business- Hank Williams jr
Trashy Women- Confederate Railroad
Could I have this Dance-Anne Murray

My favorite is the song my wife and I picked as our wedding song:

"What are you doing the rest of your life?"
by Micheal LeGrande

BTW: Danny Levin (ex Asleep at the Wheel member) did an excellent job of performing it on piano at the wedding.

Keep on pickin'!

I've always been partial to "For Better Or For Worse (But Not For Long)" as done by Connie Smith. Does the blessed couple have a sense of humor?

Don't forget the perennial wedding fave, "We've Only Just Begun" by the Carpenters.

Here are some I have either played as instrumentals or picked fills behind:

"I Cross My Heart" - George Strait
"Surround Me With Love"
"You Needed Me" - Anne Murray
"You Light Up My Life" - Debbie Boone
"Love Me Tender"
"Bridge Over Troubled Water"

I think "You Light Up My Life" is especially beautiful as an instrumental.

In the group I work with, we are asked to play "Keeper Of The Stars" more than any other song for weddings. Jody.

"The Chicken Dance" is an absolute must at weddings in the northeast. If you play it for too long though you will begin to wonder about how humans became such a successful species.

John Berrys, 'Your Love Amazes Me' is a good one. Connie Smith sang 'We Could' at our wedding and it was absolutly beautiful.

Kenny Dale's, "Two will be one after this song" is one my wife's favorites. We are asked for this song a lot at the weddings we play for in Texas.

I don't play too many weddings but I've been the official videographer at more than a few(the video guy always makes more money than the musicians) Anyhow, the song everybody plays around here is "Have I told You Lately That I Love You". Not the old 50s Elvis song but the one from a few years ago by Van Morrison - different song, same title.

I think Keeper of the Stars a hit for Tracy Byrd, not John Berry; hear it that way in my head.

I'd add one by John Michael Montgomery, but what's it called? Maybe something like "I Love The Way You Love Me". The one where he lists all the things he loves about her -- crying at sappy old movies you've seen hundreds of time, etc.

Believe it or not a young gal got up and sang D-I-V-O-R-C-E at my brothers wedding. She did a fine job and it may have been one of the few tunes she new at her age-13 or so. Anyway, it didn't have any lasting effect, as the marriage is still going strong after 20 years.

I just learned a Leo Kottke instrumental called "Accordian Chimes" for my sister's wedding. Very pretty. Also, the Pachebel Canon works well.

How 'bout "I Swear" by John Michael Montgomery.....It's a new country thing but it's a great song and says a lot.

Johnny Bush sang his original "Adriana's Song" at our wedding... mine and Kathy's - not mine and Johnny's! ... very, very romantic. Of course, his marriage to Adriana wasn't nearly as good... or as long-lived... as the song!

One good thing about the current country music marketing push towards the female demographic is that there are lots of good romantic songs appropriate for weddings. "I Swear," previously mentioned, comes to mind. Also "If Tomorrow Never Comes" by Garth is a beautiful song and message. For the up-tempo rocker songs for the after-wedding dance, "I Like It, I Love It," and "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" seem to be happy-face songs.

Tunes to avoid: "Wild Side of Life," "Who's Cheating Who," "I've Got Someone to Kill," "D-I-V-O-R-C-E," "Fist City," "The Pill," "Don't You Ever Get Tired of Hurting Me," "Cold Hard Facts of Life," "Cold, Cold Hands," "Your Cheating Heart," and "Slipping Around," among many others.
