I saw Buddy and Julie Miller at Fitzgerald's in Berwyn IL last night. I've heard a lot about them and have a couple of CDs. They blew me away live. The word that kept jumping into my head about their performance was "pure". No screaming, no hype, nobody rode in on a motorcycle or swang in on a rope or exploded anything. Just outstanding songs, basic instrumentation, a small club setting, and honest, open presentation. I haven't seen many comments about them in the forum (at least that I can find via searches). Has anyone else seen them live? |

I've picked some with Buddy Miller in Jim Lauterdale's band and a couple other bands and he is outstanding in every way - singer,picker,songwriter and a great guy.If anyone has not checked him out I urge you to do so.BTW,Al Perkins tends to play with him these days. -MJ- |

Buddy used to play steel. When he and Julie lived here in Austin in the mid-1970's, Buddy had a really cool 1965 Emmons. He sold it to Rick Price, who sold it to Jerry Millian, who sold it to Scott Moon, who swapped it to me, who swapped it to Jim Loessberg. I believe it will stay with Loessberg throughout eternity. This guitar is 5065023. I swapped it to Jim for 1264018. ------------------ |

I was in a band with Buddy back in high school (he was known as Steve Miller then), always very serious about pure country music, happy to see he's still doing it and doing it well. |

I saw them here in Atlanta a few months ago. Several comments. They are a 4 piece stripped down band. Very good music, a bit more rockish than Buddy's CDs. I wish buddy would play a littel more on the higher strings during his solos, (that's personal he played the Johnny Cash Bass string licks on E and A very well) Julie couldn't tune her guitar. All that negativism aside, they were a very enjoyable show, great harmony vocals, great songs, very personal with the crowd. I'd see them any chance I had. |

I was an idiot and let not just one show, but TWO shows at Fitzgerald's slip by, knowing full well they were gonna be there. Time and money were tight, but I could have swung it. Judging by a friend's report of the show, I missed something wonderful. Shame on me. Next time... |

Buddy and Julie are good songwriters as well. Lee Ann Womack is VERY fond of their songs and has recorded several of them. She did "Don't Tell Me" on SOME THINGS I KNOW, and the Millers sang backing vocals on it. It's one of my favorite love songs and favorite LAW performances. Check it out. |

Janice: Buddy's new album is great. They did a number of songs off of it. I was impressed that the sound Buddy got from his guitars on stage was true to the sounds on the album. He must have used four different guitars and each sounded impeccable. I don't often hear vocals and harmonies that sound as good as the recording. Theirs did. Robert: He only had a four piece band the other night too. He made a comment about not having a steel player and someone at the bar yelled "yeah what happened?". Must have been one of the other local steelers! Julie also had a little tough time tuning last Friday too. Jerry: I believe Buddy and Julie wrote "I Hope You Dance". I hope they had a good royalty deal. If so, I imagine they danced to the bank. They also wrote "Does My Ring Burn Your Finger", which is getting a lot of airplay on the satellite alt country stations. |

No, the Millers DIDN'T write "I Hope You Dance". If memory serves me correctly it was written by TIA SILLERS AND MARK SELBY. but "Does My Ring Burn Your Finger" IS INDEED one of the Miller tunes. |

Saw Buddy and Julie this past Friday night, and what a way to see the year in! Buddy's playing was right there, Julie's lightheaded, but in an endearing way, ALL the songs were strong...GO SEE 'EM, if you get a chance! No steel, but who cares. Just good people, making good music, and having a good time doing it! |

Buddy was here in Australia about this time last year...opening up for Emmylou...in fact he used her drummer and Bass player...who were a show on there own...Buddy was great.......I seem to recall he also played lead for some of Emmylous songs......it was more like a jam...for the second act who was Kasey Chambers...Emmylou just casually walked out during her spot and did a bit of harmony...then wandered off again...no big fanfare !!!!...and during her spot Emmy lou called Kasey out to sing......buddy was wandering in and out...real down home stuff. He's been out here about four times and well recieved. Tony |
