Quick chord question----

in key of A, last line of chorus, after the C# to F#m on "I hope Mary Lou, We never part", the final "Hello Mary Lou, Goodbye Heart"-----is that 2-5-1, 4-5-1, or 1-5-1? I have no recordings of this and my internal hard drive (my brain/ear memory) is pretty buggy.

| A | A | C# | F#m |

| B | E | A D | A |

At least that's the way I play it. ;-)

Thanks Rainer. I'm going to hold out for some more opinions. So far each of the options I presented is being reprsented by at least one band member. At the same time. Every week. Any one of them would work for me. Any ONE of them.

Rainer's quite right, including that quick two beats of the '4' chord - this is one of those tunes that often gets played wrong!

Uhhhh, not quite. Actually, the line is...

I knew Mary Lou, we'd never part

Also, on the original record by Ricky Nelson (which I still have!), and the sheet music as well, the change you're referring to is a straight 2-5(7th)-1. Any other variations (while they might sound okay) should be considered as "personalizations".

Thanx. As to those lyrics, I think I read somewhere that it's actually "I knew, General Stoneman, we'd never part".

Depending on what phrasing you play and in what position you play them they are all correct...

I personally have been picking a triad out of the Bm chord ( 2 nd fret ) rather than a B or B7 . I don't use picks so I play bass notes underneath the triad..

regardless..this is one great tune..
timeless..
I have been playing this on gigs for 30 years and it never dies..

Ricky Nelson and James Burton..yipes what a combo..
